JULY 27: Non-working Holiday in the Philippines

Philippines

Hello guys! I just want to inform you that July 27, which is so-called Iglesia Ni Cristo Day, is already declared non-working holiday by Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. What can you say about this? Do we also need to have Catholic Day, El Shaddai Day, JIL Day and so forth?

This is a surprise!.. i never heard about this.. But if the president has approved this then its still a great news especially to our "Iglesia ni Cristo" fellow countrymen. Although there maybe some may say this is somewhat like a political agenda, we can deny the fact that "Iglesia ni Cristo" is increasing fast. I am roman catholic but i do believe everyone has right to celebrate especially if its a special day for them.. --PaLs--

I have a bad news... Malacananag changed July 27 as a WORKING holiday instead of its earlier release that it will be non-working.

You are right. We will be having no work on July 27, in some way, this is good news for me. Thanks for the response.

This is the first time I've heard about this and checked out the Internet if it's really true. I did read in Inquirer's website about the declaration. Haven't received news from HR yet, though. :P I'm not sure about the percentage of the population who is a member of Iglesia ni Cristo. But if they are indeed a big chunk of the populace, then I don't have problem with this. We do have a holiday for Muslims (the end of Ramadan) and Catholics do have Christmas Day.

Well, you are actually right. I just feel like GMA is only doing this because she wants "something" again from Ignesia ni Cristo. Thanks for the response.

I do agree with you.. With GMA, it seems that there's always a hidden agenda. But this is good news if you're a member of INC.

Yes, I also heard this in the news. I am a Catholic and of course respected other religions, this is a good news to all Filipinos, it means we are not discriminating other religion. President Arroyo's move to unite Filipinos and bridge the religious gap is good. We don't need to have a Catholic day since we have days of obligations and solemnities and Feasts of Saints. Besides, Catholic religion is established by early Christians.

In some sort....But I have a bad news for everyone....The Malacanang released two conflicting statements...Now, they said that July 27 is WORKING special holiday. It is so sad.

Do you think that it was really because of Iglesia ni Cristo Day? I just heard from the news earlier that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will have her State of the Nation Address on that same day , 27 July 2009.
