We Are The World

Regina, Saskatchewan

Recently there has been a rash of users here who are using this site to flame and insult those of us who have been here for some time, as well as newbies. These users just don't get it. Sadly for them, they are missing the point of this site. They are missing the true magic of the use of the net, as is evidenced by those of us who have found the lot and made it our own. The lot is a perfect example of how communication, the willingness to extend the hand of friendship (even after initial strife) and the solidarity to be found among people from all over the globe who come together for a myriad of reasons, but in the end, find friendships that come to mean more to them than ever expected. I'm so tired of reading that participation here means little. People who say that couldn't be more wrong................ Tonight, at 3am, my hubs and I are taking a road trip to Alberta. We will be meeting up with another lotter and her husband and spending the weekend together. She's from the mountains of Tennessee, and I can hardly wait to show her a part of my Canada that I know and love so well. We'll be walking one of the oldest areas of the city of Edmonton, and staying at a hotel on a street named after one of my own ancestors. If someone had told me a few years ago, that the people I 'met' on the net would be as real and important to me as my own family, I would have called them crazy. My experience on the lot has changed all that. The crazy people, are the ones who don't believe that the power of the written word can not just touch your heart, but can also seep into your soul and open your mind to the very real fact, that those of us who 'meet and greet' on the net really are the world! And the world is getting smaller with every word exchanged on sites likes this, with every connection forged that makes us yearn to reach out and REALLY touch someone, because the friendships formed are now woven into the fabric of our lives and to lose those connections would be a loss as real and deep as losing member of our family. So to you users who deride the community of the lot, shame on you. You don't belong here really. There are other places you can 'play' that are as shallow as you are, and would welcome you with open arms. You seek to break the spirit of the lot, to snuff out it's magic. You won't succeed. You can insult us, delete us, upset us and forget us. But you can NEVER beat us into submission or diminish us. We are the vanguard of a new way of breaching the differences between countries and cultures. We are the world! You are not. You are simply neaderthals who will fade into oblivion and no time or tears will be wasted on your passing.......... So. Do you believe in the magic of the lot? Has it changed YOUR life for the better?

Very well said and couldn't be more true! It definetely has changed my life for the better. I found great friends here on the lot, friendships that extend well beyond the lot. I learned a lot on here and met people from all walks of life. Have fun on your little adventure and make sure to tell us about it when you get back!

If there were ever any doubt about the magic of this place, all one needs to do is look at the history between you, me, and sparks and the friendship between us now to KNOW that there really is something magical and special about mylot that he trolls will never understand.

I actually find it quite astounding how important my connections that 'live in my computer' (lol) have become to me. Here especially, where we can't really 'escape' from each other, it became even more important to me to find that middle ground where we could all get long and enjoy our total experience here. I can't thank you Rip and Kitty and sndcain and others enough for giving me the chance to get to know you all and apprciate you better. It has definitely enriched my mylotting, and taught me valuable life lessons.

I actually came here along with a group of people from another forum. Out of all that, two of us are still active here (meaning that two in the group get to sit back & still get money from as our uplines). Friendships of sorts have been forged, including one surprisingly close enough to me that I could probably hop into my vehicle & drive over to meet this person. Others have also re-assembled in other places as well. I have seen people come & go & then come back again, for various reasons, & in various ways as well. It seems that we have fun together, even fight together, & somehow, always prevail. I've even discovered new things, sort of kept up to date on news, & it was quite often, from here on MyLot instead of other news sources. Well - you managed to jump-start a line sung by Michael Jackson himself, so this other Michael Jackson-sung line would be a good answer to that one. I always feel like - somebody's watching me

Hey KK.........no it wasn't Tammyr, it was Moondancer. But Tammy and Royal are on my "American" list of those to meet and greet as soon as our new passports come through and we can travel over the border. Won't happen though until we get our house sold and get moved and the hubs can retire from the oilfields. But that should happen within the year, so no worries. We are you located?

Well said Spark and I am all the way behind you Yes I do believe the magic of the lot as this is where I met many of my very good Friends, including you But I will never forget the Gentlemen, that joined the lot a few months after me, for some reason requested me as his Friend, the first Friend he made on the Site, who always managed to make me laugh, think or cry with his Discussions, he was a wonderful Friend, even if he didn't come into my Discussions, or I didn't in his I always knew he was there and at times I would get a Message saying " you alright Gabs" then he was gone, for no reason at all, it saddened me, as there was no need for what happened, I still think a lot about him and wonder, just wonder, and hope he is well. You know the Person I am talking about Friends like him I made here, if it was not for him I would not have met you, then the way I met another Friend on here still makes me smile how we met, I miss her as she is not here much anymore, but she will always pop into my Discussions, there are so many that have been and gone which is sad But you are right this is our world, we helped to build this world with strong Friendships that can never be broken. I love you and I hope you have a wonderful weekend I wish it was me meeting you but I am still hoping that maybe one Day we will meet

I miss our English Gentleman Friend too Gabs. I think of him often. He reawakened in me my longing to be in England again. Every so often I send an email to his address, but have yet to hear back. He is constantly in my prayers....... I have to tell you Gabs, that my husband so enjoyed our meeting up with Moondancer and her hubs this weekend, that on the way home, we made plans to do more travelling and meeting and greeting my mylot friends. It surprised him, I think that people I met on the net, actually turned out to be 'real'! lol We talked about many of the great people I've met and narrowed down the 'list' of those I just have to meet before too much more time goes by. And as the hubs is Scottish and has been to Scotland before, the idea of going to Britain and taking the time to meet up with you (your first on the list!!!!!) and Darkwing, and Alice and Mummymo and P1ke and so many others, is a trip he is now looking forward to! We just have to sell our damn house first and get moved!

Hi sparky, Oh, sparky, your spark is well and truely back, I have missed you, I knmow you are around responding but not doing much discussions, and yes I agree with you all the way, this site is not for those who wants to abuse it with their money making schemes and their refferrels rubbish, I am so pleased that you are meeting one of the mylotters as I have met our own Mr. Fish and Ellie, a few weeks ago and had a lovely time, also have made so many good friends and feel close to my heart like yourself, this site brings people close and to help each other in so many ways and make good and everlasting friends, so these people should just move off to other sites where they feel at home but not here, thank you sparky, you have sid it all. love and hugs. You all... the Lot crew... make me smile, cry, laugh, think, pissed off, and just plain goofy.... my life is better with you in it. The drama even plays into the experience.... until it causes good folks to leave or cost them their account. People should play nice.... enough.

For me, the people that I have become close to they are my family. I worry when they worry, I cry when they cry, and I laugh when they laugh. We can play but it's a different kind of playing fromt he ones that wish to do the wrong things here. We joke around and tease each other, we enjoy each others company. Even though we are not face to face, we are still just as close. I am disabled, the internet was my window to having someone to talk with or to find things I need. I have forged through this information highway and tried many other sites and IM's, but I have found mylot to be the best. I stayed with the others for a year or so, but with mylot I have been here for 3 years or better. I'm the type of person that takes my friendship personally. I have formed some really great friendships here. I don't see that ever changing no matter what the "others" do or say. Yes, you can demean us, cuss us, go off on us, get us in trouble with the lot, and yes maybe even upset us once in awhile. I can tell you this...YOU WILL NEVER DAMPEN OUR SPIRITS FOR THE LOT OR OUR FRIENDS. I would love to meet up face to face with my friends here. That would make my life complete. And I can hardly wait to get to That Old Town and see the sites and meet my dear friend.

Hi Deepak! Good to see you. It takes an open mind and heart, I think to really appreciate the magic of the lot, and I try very hard to draw newbies into that magic. Some get it, some don't, but that's life. It's such a pleasure though to welcome new friends both on and off the lot as I did this weekend........which I'll be posting about, so I won't say more here for now. Hugs sweets!

If it weren't for my wonderful friends, including YOU, here on mylot helping me along with my personal hell, I don't think I'd be here today. I sincerely mean that. Even though I've been battling depression and haven't been on here much these past few weeks still, mylot means the world to me!! My friends really do care about me as I care for them because you and everyone else has shown true friendship beyond what I thought could be possible!! And for that, I can't thank you all enough!! Hello sweets! I'm home safe, and have just emailed Moondancer to let her know. I hpe she and the hubs made it back to Fort McMurray safely too and I won't be going to bed tonight until I hear from her. lol Mcelhenney, I can't tell you what a treat, what an absolute pleasure, it was to meet my favorite moonbeam and her husband. She and I both were in a lot of pain, but that didn't stop us from getting out, enjoying the city and each other. The men got along famously too, and that was so nice to see, as my hubs in particular is rather a loner, but he came alive around B and vice versa! It was wonderful. I must tell you my dear, that you have the MOST loving, generous hearted, truly brave and beautiful woman for a daughter! The bond that we have formed over the net remained true in person, and we carried on together as if we'd known each other all our lives. That is a rare gift between 'strangers', and it's down to Moondancer's aura of warmth and the loving nature she radiates that made it so. You can bet I'll be moving mountains to spend time with her again!

Hey sparks! It's so great to have you back to your old/young self again! I can't wait to hear about your meeting! I can't figure out who it is you're going to meet either so it will defititely be a surprise! I can't say enough about the wonderful friendships that I have made in the year that I accidently found mylot! It has been the most amazing experience for me since I've never been in any type of forum ever! I have had so many laughs, tears, learned so many things, but most importantly found some wonderful people that I now truly care deeply about and worry about because they are a part of my life! I consider mylot friends more family then most of the people who surround me and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about being here so that I can "see" my friends! I would love to be able to meet and spend some real time with the people here and I am hoping that one day I get as lucky as you are right now! I know that you are having the time of your life Sparks and I am so happy for you!

I think it is great that you are meeting a friend through MyLot! I hope you have a great time with them. I see this website as not just a place of discussion, but as a place to connect with others throughout the world. I have had discussions from people from all over. While I learn things about their country and culture, I also see that we are alike. We all have the same problems with relationships, money, family, jobs and just life in general.
• Regina, Saskatchewan
13 Jul 09
Exactly lulu! There are so many different countries, cultures and regional differences evident here, and yet, underneath all that, we are just people, living our lives, with hopes and dreams and problems and worries, as if we lived next door to each other, not thousands of miles away. We really are the world, and that world comes together in places like mylot and forms friendships that have meaning and texture and teach us that we are really not so different after all. And just how cool is that eh? lol

Nicely said sparky! It doesn't matter where we are or what we're doing in life, we're always going to stumble across negative and disruptive individuals. God knows what makes them tick, or why they seem to think that being this way is "fun", but it really does show their true colours doesn't it? Jeez, they're doing it from behind a cloak of online anonymity! They're nothing short of twisted cowards really. As you've shared though, we shall, we shall, we shall not be moved! Good luck to them all because our collective comraderie will always hold us in good stead. mylot has been a staple for me for 3 years now and a Godsend when you take into account my continuous relocations to different countries. It's been on of my most trustworthy constants in all this time and the friends I have here mean the world to me. Have a wonderful time with your friend's visit and I look forward to hearing all about it!

Well said yourself James! A few years ago when I was offline for quite some time, I was absolutley gobsmacked at the lengths two particular mylotters went to, to track me down and make sure I was ok. I'd not been on the lot long at that point either, and it was a humbling experience. It forever changed my view of just how the net can impact and change a life for the better. Used properly, this tool of communication can be such a source of comfort in the knowledge, that no matter how isolated one is, how difficult day to day life, our net connections, and especially the lot, is there and just waiting to welcome us 'back' and reassure us that we never need be truly alone again. And that is priceless!

wow! power to you. Like I've said on another person's discussion before, I am just a wanderer, I don't really stay in one group here. I respect those groups though and don't try to break them apart, or do anything to harm them. I see the site and what it's done for so many and I'm awed by it, but I also see those who are just here for the money. What can I say? I am too, but I don't go around and ruin it for anyone else. Except for cheaters... This is beautifully written and very powerful!

You know Pat, so many of the people I correspond with off lot, that I've met here, say the same thing. Mylot has welcomed them into a community that has opened the windows of their lives and let the sunshine in so to speak. The learning, the caring, the belonging, has brought many of them out of 'isolation' and that's where the magic lies to my mind. I'm so glad it's had such a positive affect on you too!
