People named after jewels, flowers, etc

Names of objects that best described them have been used to name people. Not in a negative name-calling way but to really name them after these things. I know of people who have been named after flowers such as Daisy, Rose, or Lily. and some being named after jewels like Ruby, Crystal and an office mate named Jade. Some give their children color names. I am nicknamed Blue. I have 2 friends who have virtue names--Grace and Liberty. Do you know someone with such names? Will you give your children flower, jewel, color or virtue names?

I have in-laws named Glory and Joy. Goddaughters named Mercy, Grace and French Emerald. Also several of my friends are Rose, Ruby, Violet, Pearl and other beautiful names that mean something. I don't have a child of my own but we have a new member of the family, a black dachshund that me and my husband named Dynah. Dinah in the Bible is Jacob's only daughter and our Dynah is the only female from the brood. The name was not derived from a flower or precious jewel but it is equally beautiful to us.

Hahaha!!! When you don't have kids at home and you are used to being with just your spouse, your tv and your computer, a pet really brings a new kind of excitement! My husband gave me my first stuffed kitty two years ago, followed by a stuffed bear then a stuffed dog. Now he gave me a real puppy as an advance gift. I never had anything like these when i was a kid. Never had a pet to care for. Hmmm... i'm beginning to think my husband is trying to teach me something!

My children have a cousin called Lily. I think it is a lovely name. One of my friends named her little girl Yasmin which is similar to Jasmine. I taught a boy that has a sister called Crystal. I did supply teaching at one school and there was a boy called River. I have named my daughter Amber. I think such names are beautiful. I love the name Holly.

Hi maximax8. I agree with you that those are lovely names. I am a bit curious about the boy named River. Never heard of someone with that name till now. I have a friend too who named her daughter Yasmin.

My cousin's name is "Ligaya", in English, "Joy". Another cousin was named "Florida" which was named after a place in USA. Her sister's name is "Early" because she was born a minute after 12 midnight. I also have a nephew whose name is "Alphagee". That is weird. Until now I don't know where her parents got the name.

"Alphagee"??? Very unique. Now that makes 2 of us wondering of the origin of the name.
