(Thanks in advance for viewing my poetry).
Answering machines have saved my life
on more than one occasion,
from drunken kin and in-laws
with their wearying repetition.
Night and day my machine sounds off
in a stream of endless drivel,
but I do not care, and I do not dare
to pick up and invite evocation.
Rehashing the past is not my cup of tea,
an estate is what I'm looking for,
so unless I'm an heir, annoying me spare,
leave a message at the sound of the beep.
