If you realized that money was randomly deposited into your account from an unknown source, would you keep it or would you notify your bank? Would it depend on the amount of money ($500 vs $5,000)? Some people may think that it is stealing and morally wrong while others may consider it a blessing or luck. Feel free to share your thoughts.

I'll keep the money in my account.I'll report it to my bank.maybe it was an honest mistake from the depositor.if,after a long time no one claims the money,I'll consider myself blessed and keep the money for my savings.it's not really stealing.you did your part in finding the owner.

Yes, I agree, as long as you do your part to report it. Thanks for your response!

I want to share my experience on this. My husband's check was direct deposit. I had went to the mall and made a purchase using my debit card. My card was rejected. I din't know why. I called the bank as soon as I got to my car. They had accidently put his money into another account. The worse thing was that the account they put it into, the owner of that account used some of that money. Here I was out of town and no money. They fixed the problem and gave ba ckall of the money. Because of what happen to me I would notify the bank before I sent a penny. The bank may have made the same mistake.

Wow I am sorry to hear that you were stranded with no money and that happened to you. I am glad that you got back the money though and I understand why you would always report it. It is true that our experiences definitely shape our ideas of things that motivate our actions.

Certainly I shall bring the notice of the bank officials. If we do not help them to rectify the mistake and withdraw the money morally I will fall to me not other. The unknown source is the mistake. And the bank staff has to penalize by monetary and in service also.

I wouldnt spend it. I used to work at a bank and that does happen. However, it is often discovered that it was deposited into the wrong account. So when they figure that out, the remove it from your account. So if you spent it right away you could cause some really big problems for yourself! So while I love money - especially money that I dont have to do anything for! - it just isnt worth the hassle to take that money!

Yes, I agree with you. It is good to know that you have experience with the bank so you know what to do. Thanks for the tip though!
