it is a new kind of technology for storing data
it is capable of storing a large amount of data ie about 50gb
since it is of a recent origin the prices are too high and they are to reduce in the following years

According to my understanding, CD/DVD requires the use of laser to read data from the disc and the old technology uses a red laser. Blue ray, as its name tells, uses a blue laser which is of shorter wave length. This allows data to be stored at higher density and therefore, the capacity of the disc can be increased.
