I come from a lower-middle class family, my father was a taxi-driver and my mum a housewife. So, I never enjoyed overseas holiday when I was young. My first trip out of my country was when I was 18 years old. I went to Malaysia with my schoolmates to visit her grandparents there. We went there by train and we stayed there for a night. Although, the trip was a very short one, I can still remember it very clearly and how excited I was during that trip. I would love to hear from you guys when is your First Trip Out of Your Country and the destination. Happy myLotting =))

My family liked holidays in my home country. We lived in the county near France. Therefore my first trip overseas was to France. I learned French when I was at secondary school so it was really great to go there often. I dreamed about traveling to other countries and I got a paper round at age 13. I saved up and managed to get my mother to book a holiday to Greece with my money when I was age 14. We had a lovely vacation and the weather was very hot there indeed. It was exciting to go one a plane for the first time in my life. I carried on saving my money up and at age 17 I went to the Netherlands with a friend. We traveled by train and ferry. We explored Amsterdam and it was memorable to visit Anne Frank's house now a museum.

I also cannot forget my first plane ride when I was 23 years old. I was super nervous and I was going to Thailand on a business trip with my colleagues. They have all been travelled on a plane before. So, I tried to act calm infront of them. Think they did not know that was my first plane ride.

Hello Vivian, actually it is considered as old when I had my first trip. Many of my rich classmates during that time have already travelled to many countries. I have heard that there are many beautiful beaches in Philipines. You are still young and you sure will have many opportunity to travel. Cheers =))

My first oversea trip when I was 12 years old. It was the graduate students trip organised by school. We went there with teachers and other classmates. The trip also make my parents hard to decide whether to let me go or not. I was truly appreciated and glad for able to join the trip after so much convincing and promise. For the 3D2N trip, I still remembered where I went on the day trip and how happy I am first time travelling holding the first Singapore passport in my life. So far, I have not go any oversea trip with all my family members, mostly local trip in Malaysia. Hopefully one day all of us can on board for a great trip.

I was surprised to hear that during that time, your school already organised overseas trip for graduting students. You are so lucky. Last year, my sister also got to make tough decision when her daughter who is 11 years old was chosen to go to a 7 days China trip to Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. It was the first time that my niece was going for oversea trip on her own. It was a highly sponsored trip and we only need to pay very little amount, so my sister finally let my niece go. It was really a good experience for my niece =))

It was to Germany. Just like you were on your trip to Malaysia, I was so excited to visit a country in another Continent, Europe. It was with my business associates. We visited the City of Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Dortmund, the place I have read about in my geography classes in High School. It was like dreams coming true. Such a happy experience !

Hello greenline, thanks for your response. I will be equal excited as you if I got the chance to visit any country in Europe. Heard that Europe is full of beautiful scenery, castles and historical buildings. I don't think I will have a chnace to visit Europe especially now I am tied up with my own family.

My first trip out of my country was to Australia, actually, it wasn't a trip a path to my oversea study. I have enjoyed the study and fun in down under so much. The student's day was quite busy but with a lot of fun. The city I stayed in is Wollongong, the 6th biggest city in Australia, I kind of wasnt imagining the city was that small, but later then I got the feeling that I was staying in another country, which was my goal. You cannot expect you have a absolute understanding about a foreign country without having a touch of life in a quiet town.

I love Australia as well. It is a beautiful country with nice scenery and people. I have been to Australia twice. The 1st time was during the first year of my working career, I went to Goldcoast and Brisbane. My 2nd time was during my honeymoon, I went to Perth. You are so lucky that you can study oversea. Cheers =))

To travel out of our country is a long trip unless you live in one of the border states. I lived in California and traveled to Mexico when I was a child. We even kept a house in that country for a period of time. It was always great fun.

America is already a very big country to explore by itself. There are so many states that you can visit. Many Singaporean also keep a house in the neighbouring country like Malaysia so that they can go there and stay for a couple of days as short holiday.

I remember my first trip out of the U.S, it was to Great Britain. What an eye-opener! I went to Clitheroe, in the northern part, where my husband is from. We stayed with his family, mostly his mother. She has since passed on. First of all, the plane ride was my first one, the ride back was horrible, because we got into wind turbulance. I loved Great Britain, what a beautiful country! Everything so green and full of flowers, and nice people. It freaked me out how close to gether everything was, especially the houses. I haven't been to London yet, but I will one day.

So far, I have not experience bad wind turbulance during my plane trip. It must be quite a frightening experience for you. I don't think I will have a chance to travel so far especially now I have a family to take care. Cheers =))

One of favourite destination is Thailand. I bet it was a wonderful experience for you during your first trip. I went to Bangkok almost yearly to do my shopping and to meet up my ex-colleagues there. Love Thailand for their affordable shopping, food and friendly people.

My first trip out of the country (I live in the United States) was to Russia. I was 14, and was taking Russian classes in high school, and they had an exchange program. I lived for a month in Petrazavodsk, with a couple days in Moscow and St. Petersburg. I went with 12 other students and two teachers, but we each had an exchange partner that we lived with.

It must be a great experience staying with a Russian partner and their family. Cos you can really get to know their way of life and culture better. I never thought of visiting Russia cos it is so far away like United States.

I'm American and I've never been out of the country. I'm 21 and when I was younger, we would go to theme parks and places on/close to the east coast since my dad worked for an airline.

Hi, My first ever trip outside my country was when I got married and had to join my husband in UAE. My dad was very much worried as he wanted me to be somewhere in the same country so that he could visit me often and so could I. But, I had to and he started accepting the fact as it was a good proposal and could not let it down for sentimental reasons like this. My siblings were overjoyed about the fact and so was my mom as she wanted me to be in a good family with a happy life. As for me I was worried and tensed in the begining but as days moved on I started feeling normal. After that I had a lot of trips to various places and now thinking of those days make me feel very happy.

I believe it must be quite an experience and brave of you to leave your own family and followed you husband to a new country. I am glad that you made the right choice and are happy now. Take care =))
