A vacuum is when the pressure inside a container has removed all the material inside. When that pressure is removed the container is keeping the outside pressure from filling. That pertected space inside the container with no matter or pressure is a vacuum. It has no friction. A way to try and make one is to take a plastic bag and flatten it out. Make sure it is fully flast and no air is trapped inside. Then seal it from having an opening for air to get in. When it is sealed try to open it without ripping the bag or breaking the seal. If you could make that bag round and no air was geting inside(which will allways happen on a slow and small level) inside the bag would be a vacuum.

The term vacume describes a state of minimal to no existence of matter. Light travels much faster though it, but sound, which depends on vibrating particles to carry it, cannot travel at all, hence the old saying from sci-fi movies "in space, no one can hear you scream. Space is not a total vacume as there is always some matter in it, even if only minute atmoic particles, but it is pretty cloes to it.
