The tradition of holding a naming ceremony dates back to Roman times. But in every country, and in every religions all is different, all is made to give a name for new baby, and to honor his mother and his family. This ceremony is different in all countries, here , is a special ocasion to make all who are very close with family to be toghether, whe the baby will receive a name in front of God. So, all happened to the church, where the priest say few words, and with the spiritual parents, who will give a name to new baby. In general kid will receive 2 names, one from parents, another from spiritual parents, who will gibve theirs name this kid. All meet after the ceremony, who was in to the church to a nice party, where people bring gifts for baby and for mother too, or money, depend. How is this ceremony in your country?

I have never heard of this ceremony in North America. The closest we have is a baptism, and that really has nothing to do with a new name, more to do with raising the child in the church. Are "spiritual parents" the same as what other countries call "God Parents?" Are they the parents who will take care of the child if something happens to the child's natural parents? How do the spiritual parents choose the new name for the child?

hello there! it's just the usual baptismal ceremony here in our country and everybody gets excited about that festivity every time there's a new baby in the family..the godparents play very significant roles in the event since they need to pray for their godchild to have a good christian life.
