The day before yesterday I went to an agent for my friend's visa extension, I had some problem of communication. Because one of my friend have a urgent thing and need to go back China. I gave my friend's passport to agent a few days before. The agent told me two days before I can get the visa at that day, but when I arrived there they said they can't give me at that time. They said they can't assure that they can get the visa tomorrow. I said I should get an answer tomorrow 12 o'clock, I can get my friend's visa in the afternoon. So I can have a plan to buy a ticket for him. But the agent misunderstood me, and thinks I want her to give me a promise, and explain to me so many times that she can only try her best but can't give me a promise at that time. My secretary's understanding that my interpretation is to follow it up. She told me the key words is follow up. But at that time I was confused, and I said no, I just want to know the answer is yes or no. Actually I only want to get an answer if possible to get it tomorrow. It's very hard to explain to her my opinion. But there is another chinese guy who is waiting there understood me perfectly, after my third time explaining to agent, he told me with smile that sometimes you were very hard to explain something to a foreigner. My friend did you met that before?

Hi xichen7, I can't remember if I have that experience before. But, I do agree that sometime we have a communication breakdown because of the different culture or have difficulty to understand someone else languages. I think that happen almost all the times. It is not easy to explain a correct situation without using the exact keyword. The best way is if you are a foreigner there, try to learn their languages. You may not have an excellent command of that languages but it will help a little bit. Happy mylotting and have a nice day.
