Ok, this is my Chinglish

I mean Chinse English by the word Chinglish. This morning, a colleague saw a sentence of my email, and then he cried out: " is this written by you? What did you write? Even I can't understand, let alone the foreigners.. This is Chinese English." I was embarassed and smiled back: yeah, it's kind of Chinese English, how should I change? It's really difficult to take others' advice, see, although I smiled and asked him for improvement. I still feel lost. I've always thought that my English's not bad, and I keep learning. How should it turn out like this? Have you ever experience the similar circumstances? You thought it's fine or at least ok when someone directly speak their different opinion out? How did you handle it? Please share. Honest, I don't think my English's that bad. Am i stubborn or arrogant?

I can understand you perfectly. I'll be honest and say I can tell you're from another country, but I can still understand you perfectly. Do you think there's a chance this colleague may be jealous of you?

Thannks, somecowgirl, for your honest answer. I'm really puzzled about how to learn English as well as a native speaker. Difficult to improve

With anything, it takes practice. Being on this site may help you a great deal, and I will always try to clarify for you when you are not sure. I'll be patient as well. If you knew me in person, lol, you'd know I'm not too patient. Online's different though.

Your English is just fine. Forget your co-worker. You do wonderfully here. The more you hear and read English, the better you will get. But I think you do just great right now. So keep up the good work!

U are not alone.. Because in singapore, we do face the same kind of problem like u by having, 'singlish'.. lol =D It's not that easy to come out of it after we have already gotten used to it throughout the years.. Though we might be versed in both languages, but we can use direct translation for everything.. If u really want to learn perfect or maybe the right kind of english, u have to ditch those chinese way of saying, and thinking in the path of how english words should be used in order to sound smooth and yet correct.. It's not easy, but it can be done.. My english is not that good either, because i'm too used to 'singlish' as well..

I think you do very well in English too. I can't imagine trying to learn a language like Chinese, Japanese, or Korean... I would be at a loss!

Hey, kun, you will experience this too? Singlish? I've never heard of this. But the guy who said my English is bad is right from Singapore. He studied in USA for a couple of years. He's fond of commenting on others' English I guess.
