How do you prepare for a critical Examination?

when I was a student, I used to cut college, but i used to prepare from library books at home. On the day of the exam, I used to refrain from studying, reading or even talking about the examination. Instead, I used to laugh and joke with my horrified friends. I always managed to do my exams with a tremendous calmness and focus.
