Are there no more good ideas for new movie franchises?

Jurassic Park had dinos, Die Hard had terrorists, Hellraiser had the cenobytes, Alien had insect-like creatures, Predator had hunter mentality creatures, the Living Dead movies had zombies, Terminator had killer cyborgs.... and so on. It seems like theres no good ideas for movie franchises left. They all stem around something, whether its a new alien species or something else, but it feels like theres no new ideas for new baddies or creatures. For instance, how many different types of alien species can u have? Hive mentality, hunter mentality, what else? Because everything else is almost similar to one of those two categories i.e. the creatures in Pitch Black and Independence Day have hive-like mentalities just like the ones in the Alien franchise. See my point?

Hi handsomeitaliano. Good point. The Steven Spielberg and Stan Lee storyboards had been recopied in so many films. Probably time for the younger generation to introduce new plots and concepts.

You know what's hot right now? Superhero movies! Remember those cartoon shows when were younger? Transformers, X-men, etc. (when I was younger at least). They were originally comic books of course. And then cartoon series - and now MOVIES. My goodness! Transformers just made TONS of money!!!! X-men had the trilogy - now they just had Wolverine Origins. I'm sure it's not gonna stop there for them!! Rumor has it that they have AVENGERS in the making?!?!? I'm excited as hell. Hehehehehe...

I totally agree, if they are not ruining classics with dire remakes they are just rehashing the same old story with the same old elements. It’s as if the Hollywood think tank has become so empty that the ability to think originally has well and truly disappeared. I can understand why it is hard for there to be anything new as most of the great and original ideas have already been done. Plus I would guess that the producers tend to stick to well worn formulas and ideas as they know they will pull in the crowds. On top of this you could also take into account that most people’s imaginations are inspired by what they already know, so it sort of makes sense when all that comes out these days are rehashes of what the writers have seen before. But I am sure there must be some original new ideas out there.
