Google chrome help needed

Hey people.....I have a problem, I have successfully installed google chrome and opened it however it won't connect to the internet. My other browsers work fine but i can't get google chrome to work. I was talking to my friend online and I told him about the situation. I asked him y does it occur and he said apple and google don't work together. Basically he was telling me to uninstall my safari browser.....I didn't try it but I will once someone can confirm that this is true. I really like safari but i heard chrome is better so if i must uninstall safari then goodbye safari!
