Who are some great jazz musicians?

Hi All,
Jazz encompasses a vast array of distinct styles and artists, from the big band swing of Tommy Dorsey, to the free jazz experimentation of Albert Ayler. Are there any more popular and great Jazz musician in this world?

Some of my favoruites are Loui Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington (if you consider him jazz) and others from that era. If one is a guitar player you absokutely CANNOT leave out Less Paul, father of the electric guitar and style. George Girshwin of course deserves honorable mention here, many consider him to be the godfather of early jazz and he certainly influenced a great number of later jazz artists.
