President Barack Obama yesterday admitted that the US was incapable of properly defending its computer networks, announcing that he would appoint a "cyber czar" to oversee efforts at beefing up internet security Mr Obama's announcement came amid reports that the Pentagon planned to create a new military command for cyberspace, stepping up preparations by the armed forces to conduct both offensive and defensive computer warfare. The military command will complement the civilian effort outlined by the president. Officials have grown increasingly alarmed as US computer networks have been constantly assailed by attacks and scams, ranging from nuisance hacking to more nefarious probes and attacks on electricity grids and air traffic control, including suspicions of cyber espionage by other nations, such as China. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/5408182/Barack-Obama-to-appoint-cyber-czar-for-internet-security.html

This is just disgusting and scary at the same time. This is yet, another road to less freedom and less privacy. But hey, we really do not have any privacy. It is only a facade, always has been. This is also known as BIG BROTHER....if you think this is bad, you better stop watching TV because we are being watched through our TVs too. http://www.infowars.com/print/ps/tv_watching.htm

It is terrible that people have to even worry about things like that. Just like when you use your credit cards to shop and shopping discounts and resale makes you rate as a higher risk. Appreciate the response.

For Military and governmental websites I think this is OK. However and I am very sure that underneath all of the cyber czar's overseeing of cyberspace there will also be a system for censoring anything detrimental to Obama that is posted on NON military cyberspace on forums, blogs, etc. Obama's administration has already caused the disappearance of some websites which were anti-Obama.

Lets hope that it does not change to the point that people will not be able to blog or post their discussions. We would hate to see freedom of speech surpressed and the internet end up only belonging to the government too.

I am sure that people will still be able to use the Internet but what they post could be censored for contents approved by the government.

At this point I have little info on what this subject is all about. I will look into it. But I do know that other advisors of Mr. Obama's are dangerous in their views...take John Holdren, the science czar...he wrote a book saying it was permissible to kill children up to two years of age...since they did not have 'free will' at that point...they weren't 'human'!!! So...to trust any person whom Obama has chosen....is beyond my scope.
