Parents and Cars.

Should parents automatically go out and buy their child a car on their 16th birthday? I've seen way to many people driving around in new cars given them by their parents. If you think parents should buy their kid a car on their birthday should there be a limit as to how much they spend? Is this just showing the kid that their parents will always get them anything they want whether they need it or not? Thank you in advance for your responses.

In the UK you can't get your license until 17, many parents help with the cost of lessons and test, but few teenagers can afford the car insurance so its rare to have a car until you are in your twenties

Very interesting. I didn't know that. Thank you for the interesting info. Is it similar to Germany? They have to be 18 get one on one attention from an instructor for I believe 16 hrs, could be wrong, and then when the time comes to get the license it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $1800.

Thank you for your response. I know when I got my license I got a job and bought my own car. It was a crappy van, but I paid for it. Went through 2 others before I landed on one that is more than decent. Paid for them all.
