A good way to get followers is to start following people. Try to find people who have the same interests as you, and to follow them. They'll check you out to see who you are, and will follow you back if they're interested. Also, the more tweets you send, the more people will see you and will be interested in following you.

I've been using Twitter for about 1 year now. I get my Twitter followers by posting websites on my profile that I feel my followers would like to read. It is better if you post links that stick to a topic, so if you like technology you can posts news links or websites that are relevant to technology and that way more people will follow you. I also found out i get more followers by thanking people for following you. You can do this either by sending them a DM or actually announcing it as a new update. Hope this helps!

You can use flashtweet, it work like this, you invite people as much as possible, through other people tweet name, and most the time, half of it will return your invitation to and be your followers too.
