My carpet needs a good cleaning!

It sure does! I have carpet in the living room and in the 2 bedrooms! I recently bought a steam carpet clearer. It made the carpet look worse then it alreay is! Now I'm going have to rent a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner to clean my very dirty carpets! Anyone else used a Rug Doctor?

we used them when we rented apartments when I was young and if I recall correctly they did a pretty good job.
Sorry that the one you bought didn't do the trick for you. Could you return it? or call the mfgr and complain about it?

Homemade Shampoo:
Use 1/2 cup powdered detergent, 1 tsp ammonia and a quart of warm water. Mix in a bowl, stirring constantly to work up a layer of froth. Using froth only, rub lightly with a sponge or cloth over the entire carpet. When necessary, continue stirring solution to get additional froth. Allow carpet to dry. Vacuum entire area.
