What is the use of Star ratings?

Hi friends, Im new at Mylot and am exploring this site to my best. I am stuck at knowing what the Star ratings at the left of the username denote. I want to know what these ratings are and How do they affect me. Does they have any effect on my earnings? How can i get some good ratings? Please help. Thanks for your time.
