Well, it really depends on how much you will spend. The ideal amount of money you want to save is a year's worth, so even if you lose your job, you will have some money to have a safety net, and also, usually it takes this amount of time to find a job similar to your last. I serious feel having over 10 000 in the bank is already a milestone for me, but as time goes on , I could accumulate more money. Remember, to 'feel secure', it is best to have insurance on your bank amount, as that is the only way you can have peace of mind. If you looking at saying for a great retirement, then you will need a lot more. The average time you will live in retirement years is about 20 years, so you would multiply that by your expensive, say $20 000 a year. $20 000 times 20= $400 000 for an estimate. This is something that lots of 'baby boomers' don't foresight into their future retirement years, and sooner or later their money will run out and they will have to rely on the government, which is not a good thing ;)

I have discovered that it´s not money but people that makes you secure. I´m a widow and my pension is small. I will get more (not a lot) in another year. Meanwhile, my sister and brother and my two daughters help me out. This year I have had some health problems. Normally my money is enough is I live frugally and I use my online earnings to travel. But This year I didn´t know how to make ends meet. So my brother said he would take care of all I spent in healthcare, my sister is giving me around $200 a month and one of my daughters takes care of one of the most expensive meds and the other paid for a maid once a week while I needed her. My friends help me out too. They all love my birthday parties but the presents I get are impresive. They invite me out, take me to the movies and to the best restaurants. I, in turn, cook for them at home. In my country, when one of the spouses die, part of what´s left is divided with the sons and daughters. My two daughters handed me all that was theirs. So I have my own house and all that was left by my husband. With people like that, you don´t need money
