Drugs in the US

when it comes to drugs of all sorts, we are one of the stingiest countries in the world, but is it really benefiting us? The age required to buy alcohol is 21, but people can enlist, vote, drive, and smoke at age 18? The war on drugs has costed the country billions, and yet all it seems to have done is push drugs underground where they can do the most damage. When prohibition was passed, people didnt stop drinking, instead they turned to violent gangsters and thugs, so the result was people were still getting drunk, but with out the government seeing any revenue for it, while having a whole new wave of crime to worry about. what do you think about all sorts of drugs? should they be legal? Is it not our right as Americans to alter our consciousness off of any sort of substance that we want?
