July 27 National Working Holiday in the Philippines

It is a great honor for the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ)to receive a commendation from the government of the Philippines in the form of Republic Act (RA 9645). It garnered a lot of recognition and approval from the community; as well as disapproval and criticism. The appreciation flourish from the social responsiveness of the organization to the community especially during the time of calamities and disasters; and in nurturing the spirituality of its members. The criticism rooted from the jealousy of other organization which have not reached the grandeur of the church. THey may argue they made significant social impact to the community, and so they feel the govenment should also declare a day in the Philippine calendar a holiday as a means of recognition to their organization. Is it really necessary for the government to declare July 27 as National Holiday?

Yap, good for you! I think the reason why GMA declared it as holiday is to impress the church. you know, election is near.

I thought so too. After all, they make up a huge demographic of the entire population. I don't think she's done it only for INC, since she's declared a few holidays for some other religious groups or sect as well. :)
