You shouldn't read your book that's faced away from the light. Otherwise, it may ruin your eyes. Having a lamp to lighten up what you're reading is definitely a good idea.

Some people like reading before sleeping, and think it will be easier to fall asleep, otherwise will toss and can not fall asleep. Whether this habit is good or not, can't be treated as the same. Generally speaking, some books needn't people think deeply about or will not enable people excited, especially the books with more uninteresting content, have certain 'hypnosis' function, often can fall asleep after several or ten minutes. Because the time is relatively short, such a reading before sleeping, generally will not influence the healthy. However, if reading for a long time before sleeping, and it was the novel with tense or thrilling plot, or need rack one's brain to think complicated problems, then, cause excited in cerebral cortex, and can not enter course of inhibiting for a long time, will enable people's insomnia, or the sleep is of low quality.Go down for a long time, will certaily influence the health. Besides, the body posture of reading when lying in bed, will diminish normal eyesight, should notice extraordinarily.

Reading is definitely a food for your brain. Reading is equivalent to knowledge. That of course depends on what type of books you are reading. Regarding the habit of reading before sleeping, I think most doctors would probably suggest this one as well especially for the insomniac ones. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with this kind of habit. On the other hand, counting sheep is a good alternative as well.

Well I don't know the benefit or loss of reading before sleeping, but yes I have a habit of reading before sleeping. And this habit is since long time now, almost since my childhood. Sometimes I keep on reading for an hour and sometimes I go to sleep just within 5 minutes. Don't laugh but I read comic books at this age also, and don't like reading novels or magazines.
