how is your relationship with your roommate?

Though i never had to deal with roomates in college, where you don't really have much of a say over who you room with, i have had a lot of roomates come through my apartment in the six years the i have lived here. Luckily we were all friends, but soemtimes that can even make it worse, as you don't want to ruin the friendship due to some sort of incompatability you have living with them. The number one thing to remember when living with other people is to be courteous. This entails many things..cleaning up after yourself, contributing to the living arrangments equally and remembering that everyone (including yourself) needs some down time, alone sometimes. You are not all their to entertain eachother and participate in every aspect of everyone elses life. When living with others, drama can get quite intense sometimes. I found that it was best to just try and keep your opinions to yourself, even if you think someone is making some bad choices, unles they specificly ask for your advice. Even then, keep in mind they might not really want to hear what you truley think! It can be very hard maintaining a balanced, happy, harmonious place to live when you have so many personality types living under one roof, but it can be done! i am agree with you...... as a person we need some space to do what we want in our room alone....i want be away with someone who is getting something away from me, specially my things..

@fruitcakeliz...you hit all the nails on the head. @plumage...consider everything that fruitcakeliz suggested, it really seems like very sound advise. And also remember, that your college experience will be over before you know it and all of those unpleasant memories will become a thing of the past. And I am not trying to say that it will be easy, I have a daughter that's in college and she has shared quite a few stories about some of the situations that she has had to deal with and also those of her friends. And I do realize how difficult it can be, but hang in there...it will be over soon...

My roommate is my husband! However, I think I know what you meant. Back in my college days, I share my room with another two roomie that came from different countries. That however, did not cause any trouble to us. We tolerated each other's culture very well and surprisingly, we got along well. We even became the best of friends throughout..
