hello mylotters!=p Do you like someone call you by your real name? nick name? or worst, your family name?lol When I was still studying they often addressed me by my my family name,if not, my real name. The worst thing was they didn't know how to pronounce my family name. It happened to me all the time... I prefer calling nick names rather than real names.

all of the above is okay for me. i love my name and my nick name and my surname as well. though my real name is not a familiar name so people dont use my real name. some of my close friends call me using my real name and some would really react WHO IS THAT? for people really call me using my nick names. in your case when a name or surname is hard to pronounce it gets really irritating if you always need to correct it. lucky me i have simple surname and a popular surname that is, and a not popular name so they end up calling me ron or roni.

hello simone! i'm here again! hehehe all of them are fine with me...wherever they are comfortable in calling me...hehhee but when i am still studying, most of the time i am called in my real name...well i just have a short name...but when we have our girl scouts, CAT...that was the time when i am addressed in my surname...and sometimes some teachers really addressed us in our surnames, maybe that's easier for them... the only people who called me in my nickname are those who are really close to me, and those who knew me since i am just a kid, like my relatives and my neighbors...hehehe but now, some people was able to give me new nicknames which are even shorter than my real nickname! huh!

I only use one name and that is my real name. I don't have a nick name and no one calls me by my family name.

Well may be. Every one liked that way. Perhaps the meaning of the name is such, people didn't want to change it. The meaning of the name is light. Name is short and sweet.

why is that so? Is your name so short that is why you don't have a nickname? Usually short names like Chinese are not fond of using nicknames except their family address them according ranking(age and gender).

They say pilip instead to pronounce as filip. But some in my office they used to call me as phil. Here in mylot also some dearones called me as philly. Its really nice to hear nicknames. But in my family they call me as pilip. Nice discussion. Enjoyed.See you around..

thank you phillip.=p thank you for participating in my discussions. Some people are having trouble in pronounciation,it depends on their environment. Some prounounce "e" as an "i", "f" for "p",vise versa.

family name, first name , nickname its depend on whose our talking to and your relation to that person. For example.. family name is use to call a person if you have formal conversation.. Like talking to a teacher, a doctor,..professional... Now first name when you have informal talk or semi formal like a friend you meet in a meeting, or your former boss. etc.. nickname only reserve to the person who you want to get closed to..like friends, cousins, etc.. So me..I preferred in that order..If your a doctor and you call me by my nickname I will surely correct you..And if you your my friend and think you are and you call me using my family friend..That will be the last time that I consider you a friend..

Well, yes. It's improper if you address a professional by its nickname or by her/his first name if you are within the work place. But, outside i think it's fine if the person permits you so. I guess it depends on the individual. My professor way back in college allow us to call her by her first name but with "Miss".

The only knick name I have is more associated with a group I am in for motorcyclists. Everyone in the group has a knick name. So it only gets used when I am talking to those people on line or when I am at a rally with the group. At the rally no one calls me by my real name just my knick name. Nobody in my everyday life calls me the knick name. I like it when I am at rallys and wouldn't like it at home in everyday life.
