Imagine you are approached by a homeless person. He asks for alms. You search for a coin and give it to the guy. While giving the money, if your hand touches the beggar's palm, would you: Squirm, but think its ok. He is also human. Feel completely repulsed. Oh god, dunno if he has taken shower. Not bother. You touch so many things, cant get paranoid about such stuff How would you react? :)

I, myself, would just not bother. I like giving away money to the needy and the poor. I don't mind if I just have to touch their hand.

Thanks a lot. I have seen people squirming and acting weird after they have touched a beggar accidentally. They seem to feel that the beggar, since he is homeless has a lot of germs or something on his person. It is not nice and you are also creating a lot of negative emotions in the person to whom you are giving alms. You must give alms with a lot of love. The genuineness comes through. Thanks for sharing. Happy mylotting. :)

I am not really the clean freak person who would just squirmed s if touch by a germs or something. If some beggars touch me then i might just look at the spot where their fingers touch me to see for some dirt but not really that blunt because everything we touch have millions of germs already. The beggars are sensitive and weak people and they will be surely hurt if I will let them see m my expression I would probably just give them a small smile and turn my way. I don't want to feel hypocrite but let's be kind enough not to be so clean freak.

I'd love to pretend to be noble and say - what's the big deal, s/he is only human. But the fact of the matter is that i would, in all honesty, squirm, and wish it hadn't happened. I would reach for some wet wipes as quickly as possible and try and think of something positive to forget what just happened. It makes me wonder, though.... what the beggar might be thinking.... of me...and the fact that s/he had to touch my hand! Am I disgusting as far as the beggar is concerned? When the beggar looks at me, I wonder how s/he sees me. Some weird creature with wires sticking out of my ears and a huge tote bag that looks too heavy for me and a cup of coffee that is threatening to spill over? Who knows!

I know that they are not that clean and will not make a big deal. However, I'll make it a point that when I get to the next destination, I will wash my hands

When i give, i usually pat him on the shoulder. I do not mind if he is dirty, i can wash my hands because i know the touch i gave to this man will bounce and touch his heart in a special way. This kind of touch would mean more to him than your money.

It is human to take the hand of the person and express your sympathy towards him, but I have never done that. I have a feeling in mind that beggards don't keep themselves clean and there is a good possibility to get skin diseases by touching him. So, I never take the risk.

I'm generally against the habit of giving beggars arms. But this has happened to me many a times and I generally Squirm, but think its ok. "He is also human." But at times when the beggar is tooooo dirty i do feel completely repulsed and think "Oh god, dunno if he has taken shower." Have you by any chance met beggars who touch you deliberately to make you feel uncomfortable? I have.

Nice point for discussion. Usually i feel sympathy for any old aged beggar I feel sorry for all thr troubles he/she goes through. Even If I give them alms I would not touch them. Not because of disgust but for reason that they are not clean. But i give out something with sympathy Happy mylotting
