How much accurately, correct, do you speak your mother tongue?Do you use complicated, literary , language, as you learn in school or just street and day by day language? I mean that i can know, in my language, if somebody is a educated person, who was to University, but in English i can t know if a person is educated, just because i don t speak English very well. What kind of language you use in your mother tongue?

I am trying to improve my English constantly, because I do a lot of translations at work. I also try to keep my mother tongue, which is Russian, by reading good fiction books and old literature. I'm also working on my Estonian to keep it clear and easy to understand. I am definitely for good literary language.

Hi, is good t0o improve even your mother tongue every day. is very important to speak a new language, but is pretty good to speak your natural language, day by day life make difference between peoples, and if they speak literary, people will apreciatte.

i use Tagalog dialect in the house, Visayan Cebu dialect when with friends, English with clients. i get to have this habit now of talking Tag-lish (a combination of Tagalog and English). Sometimes it sounds funny but i guess people as long as they understand, dont mind it much. thank you for this discussion. ann

Hi my native tongue is TAGALOG its filipino language. And I must admit I am not that good with it.Even when I was in school I fail filipino class. Its weird cause its my mother language. I am not that fluent when it comes to english but my grades in english is way better than my filipino subject.

In the country we lived, we speak the 3 major languages frequently. And if there is a mother tongue to be spoken, then it will defines into the different dialect each races use. Like mine, my family are Chinese race, and therefore we speak dialect such as Cantonese, Hokkien in the family unit. Well, by speaking our own mother tougue, it helps to make the family or friends knitted closer since we speak the same language. However, for English, we are still unable to tell how educated people is, coz these languages need to be practise in order to make it perfect. I don't think even a graduate is able to speak a good English if he / she has not practise over it.
