Young poet or Older poet?

When did you find the inspiration to write poetry? Were you young or old? I believe I started writing poetry when I was around 12 or 13. I needed an outlet for my feelings. I don't write much poetry these days, but when I do; I always have a paper and pen handy.

I was 12 when I wrote my first poem, so that is more than 20 years ago. I had a cat poster in my room at that time, and the poster inspired me to write my first poem. The poem was very short and I still remember it. I wrote a couple of other poems when I was 12, but I don't remember them any longer. Sometimes we had to write poems in school, and most of my classmates hated that, but I enjoyed writing poems. My poems were often about loneliness. I wrote about people who were different and people who felt left out. When I look back on those poems now, I feel that they reflected my own life and my own feelings at the time, but I didn't think about that when I wrote the poems. I am 32 now and I still write poems, but it is a different kind of poems. Some of them are inspired by new age stories, and others are inspired by my own experiences. I like to experiment and I like to different kinds of poems.

When I was young, my poems always told a story about love, life, and hate. I still do like to write poetry about topics that I have something clever to write about. I vaguely remember my younger self trying to rhyme every poem I've tried to write, but I don't do that anymore. Some of my poems will rhyme and some of them will not.
