Sharden, it truly depends on the severity of your anxiety. Does it happen everyday? Do you worry about everything? Does it interfere with everyday life and activities? Is it only focused on one particular event or type of events? Depending on the answers to these questions, you may want to seek professional help. I dealt with the anxiety for years on my own, but struggled everyday. Now, with the help of my therapist, I am leading a "normal" life and enjoy being around people and trying new things. However, if you feel that this is something that you can tackle on your own, then I commend you. Here are a few tips that I've used over the years. Tip #1: Take deep, soothing breathes. Try to relax...concentrate on your breathing...purposely slow it down. This will help calm you down. Tip #2: If it's anxiety being in front of people, practice, practice, practice. For instance, big speech coming up...then pull out your script and read it out loud, in front of your mirror, and in front of friends/family. Are you trying to figure out what to say when you meet new people? Develop some answers for common questions, such as "What do you do for a living?", and recite what you want to say. This way by the time you get into the particular situation, you'll have had plenty of practice and be less nervous. Tip #3: Press forward, face the anxiety head-on, never quit! Remember, successful people fail way more often then they succeed...so get out there and fail! The more you do, the more your anxiety will disappear, and your bound to succeed along the way. Good luck! :)

I suggest a deep breath and then thinking of something positive. I like to think back to happy times in the past when I have that awful feeling of anxiety. It can be helpful to take a warm bath and afterwards read a book that is uplifting and happy. When I hear something really shocking I count to ten in my head before responding to the other person. I don't like to swear and would say somethings like "no way" and "bother".

Hi there. I can understand how horrible it can be to suffer from anxiety. I used to have anxiety attacks which led to me being short of breath and collapsing. I have used meditation to help control my anxiety. Yoga also helps with releasing stress within the body.
