I am worried because last time I had them cleaned it was way overdue and my gums have receded.I have been very careful to keep my teeth and gums healthy since that visit. Can having my teeth scaled and cleaned professionally loosen my teeth if my gums are receded?

Just like your MD you must be able to trust the dentists judgment. If you don't then its time to find another. My gum's are also receding ,I have also had scaling done.It may feel for a few days that they are loose ,because of the junk they get out. After that they will be fine and back to normal as your gum's retract back into place. Just be sure to mention it to the hygienist,so they do go gentle in these area's.It sounds crazy but when it comes to cleaning the hygienists seems to have a better knowledge then the dentist, of what to do and when to stop. Any fears you may have you should discuss before they start, this way you will have a better idea of what to expect. *Rinsing with white willow bark daily ,you can avoid future damage , plus halt the deterioration of your receding gum's.Good luck
