He is married to Gauri Khan who comes from a Punjabi family and her formerly surname was Chibber. They have two children his son, Aryan Khan and his daughter Suhana Khan. ----------------------------------- Shah Rukh Khan started his career appearing on various television series, particularly when playing the role of 'Abhimanyu' in the war drama series Fauji (Soldier) in 1988, a minor role in Circus in 1989, which depicted the life of circus performers. He made his film debut in the 1992 film Deewana along with the late Divya Bharti which was a big hit. In 1993 he attracted a great deal of attention when he was praised for his performances in two negative roles in Baazigar (as an anti-hero and murderer) and Darr (as an obsessed lover) which became huge hits at the box office and shot him to stardom. 1995 was a very successful year for Khan when Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) broke box office records and Khan, as the lead, was given a great deal of credit for its success. He then became close friends with two of Bollywood's biggest directors Yash Chopra and Karan Johar and has starred in many of their hit films which were Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) and Veer-Zaara (2004) Despite his success, some have criticized Shahrukh for sticking to "safe" romantic roles (such as his roles in Karan Johar's or Yash Chopra's films). With Swades (2004) and Paheli (2005), Khan took a different take on roles but these films did not do as well compared to his films with Yash Chopra and Karan Johar. Khan co-owns a production company called Dreamz Unlimited with actress Juhi Chawla (a friend ever since they co-starred in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman) and film director Aziz Mirza. The production company has produced three of his films, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Asoka and Chalte Chalte. With the exception of Chalte Chalte which was successful, the other two flopped at the box office. In 2004 another of his production houses, Red Chillies Entertainment, produced film Main Hoon Na which was his second hit under his own production house. Red Chillies Entertainment is owned by Khan and his wife Gauri. He also co-produced the horror film Kaal (2005) with Karan Johar. This film was successful at the box office but film critics didn`t appreciate Kaal, because they called the storyline flat. He then produced Paheli (2005), which was India's selection for the Academy awards consideration even though it only did moderately at the box office and critical reviews were also mixed. In 2006 he starred in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna also directed by Karan Johar and in Don, a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don. Both films have done very well at the box office.
