Last weekend a 'pregnant' chinese lady married her dead fiance (he died in an "incident") ... but she did not go tru the full ceremony only the tea ceremony between the families to accept the lady and her baby into the family It was a sad event, totally sad as her lover died the night prior to the wedding ... ( the death is still under investigation .. commit suicide ??) The incident can be read at : http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/8/16/nation/4531439&sec=nation The full description on this ceremony can be read at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_ghost_marriage

Hi sanjana, Surely sad is the event that she lost her would be husband before the actual marriage had taken place and strange is that People can go to extent in the name of practice of this or that. Be it ghost marriage or occult practice. As the girl is accepted by the family is a great relief.

Yes,it is very good that she is accepted by his family. Some people that actually got married don't get that. One person or the other is not accepted by the others family.

Yeah, the same question ran across my mind too that what would be the legal standing of this marriage. We do not know for legal application on the same issue is different in different countries.

This is really sad. I've never heard of this sort of ceremony. It must be sad for this woman to go through this, or anyone else who has gone through this sort of thing. I feel really sorry for this young woman, not to mention the other women who have gone through this or might have, according to my understanding of the two articles that you linked, sanjana (this is from my understanding of the articles).

It is very sad indeed and touching story. They are doing that to give the baby the father's family name. The family is very thoughtful yet the baby will be the only generation of the father.
