This morning I was out for a interview and I was asked a question: have you had any experience to keep or look after other’s property? I don’t know why they asked me this question and I could not remember any experience relate to the question. I said I had experience to manage my parent’s money. I helped them to invest in stock market. That’s all. Now I came back and still think about the question. I thought it would be interesting to ask the members of myLot about their experiences. Have you had any experience to keep or look after other’s property? Tell us your story, pls.

In fact right now I am experiencing this. My sister and her family went abroad for two years and they entrusted me with their two dogs. She hated giving the dogs away because she loved them so much and I could see how much it was tearing her apart. Now I have never looked after a dog, never mind 2, but I couldn't bear to see my sis so sad about it, impulsively I told her not to worry that I would look after them, not knowing what I was letting myself in for. My sis was reluctant to burden me, but on the other hand relieved that the problem was solved. Someone entrusting you with something means a huge responsibility, even bigger than looking after your own things, because its a case of trust. So here I am, getting up at god forsaken hours to feed them, and put them out before I go to work, make sure their meals are ready, give them baths, clean their kennels, treat them when they are sick, play with them, and on and on.... I never knew it was going to be this hard; but on the other hand, rather satisfying too. I'm learning something new and its not all that bad.

That is a strange interview question. They were probably just trying to find out how trustworthy you are. If someone had trusted you enough to look after their own belongings. I have house-sitted a couple times. And wow, big deal. Especially if they have any pets. One of the times I did this the people had inside dogs. Not a big deal, they were house-trained and all, but I kept forgetting to let them out during the day when I was working and I would come home to dog poop everywhere. Luckily the floors were wood and tile. No carpet. So easy to clean. But I did end up having to buy them some new kitchen towels since I threw some of theirs away after cleaning up the dog poop with them. That's my story.

yeah i've experienced it way too many times. i guess people just trust me with their stuff. lol. i actually take it as a compliment because it means that people see you as someone who doesn't only have respect for other's property but also care. but sometimes, it gets a bit burdensome especially when you can't do the normal stuff you got to because you have to look after someone's belongings.

it's true. Some times trust also means responsibility. I already felt it when i helped my parents managing their money. thanks for your reply and best wishes.
