Hi, Jkshan, Write down the error code on the blue screen, search in microsoft.com with the error code. then you will find out the reason why the blue screen appears. Maybe it due to a hardware uncompatiblity or a bad XP CD. Hope this is useful for you to solve the problem... See you.

hope this will help. XP-sp3 solves the problem because sp1 and sp2 didnt have certain driver and sp3 has them inbuilt. Found this detail on http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19286705.aspx

are you using original copy or pirated copy. I will suggest you to use Windows Xp professional with Service pack 2..

Hello, i also had the same problem initially and i had Dell Inspiron 1525. Well, xp can be installed on your system. Just go to your BIOS settings and change the mode of operation of hard disk to AHCI. This will remove the lock on your hard disk. Still if you are not able to install, Download the hard disk driver from the dell's official site and install it. Then do the above process. YOu might be able to go on well. Still if your answer is a "NO", then you may have to check your cd for defects and try to install with another XP cd. As other users in this discussion told, it doesn't really matter whether it is a original or a pirated XP cd. Once XP is installed, you can go to services that are running by typing "services.msc" in run and bringing up the properties of the two: namely, "automatic updates" and set it to disabled. This is actually responsible for checking of your license of your OS. Also be sure to stop "Security Center" in the same manner. All must go on well. If you liked my post, please rate it the best. Hi jkshan, When Windows Vista is installed already on the Laptop then you cannot install Windows XP. Windows Vista is newer or higher version OS. So, if you have original Windows Xp OS copy then I suggest you call the Dell customer support for assistances. But I want to ask you one question why do you want downgrade Vista which is original version if I am not wrong. Any software will work if you use WIndows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. On Vista Basic, many programs will not work properly. Anyhow, When you want to switch on Windows Xp then first of all you have to remove Vista and then install Windows XP. If your Laptop is under warranty then you request the customer care of Dell and ask for support, tell them that some of your programs or softwares are not working on Vista. And you want to downgrade to Windows Xp and ask them for OS or else you give your Windows Xp copy and ask them to load. I request you not to tamper the preloaded OS because you cannot get back that OS if you want, so, it is better you consult the Dell support. I have done with my sister laptop and Dell have downgraded Vista for us because we had preloaded Vista basic, this version is not helping to use .net,etc. So, I requested Dell to change and they had done it for us but we have provided Orginal Windows Xp cd if we don't then we have to pay money for OS only... So, think and if you are not interested to pay Dell then contact a hardware person who loads pirated versions.. All the best

The problem with trying to install XP on a laptop is that XP does not have drivers to be read off a CD_ROM drive. You have to use a floppy disk drive that is hooked up to a usb connection (like 20 bucks on newegg)then you you need to go to a windows site and download a driver for your version of XP (32 or 64bit). When you boot up your pc, make you cd-rom first boot. The window should come up and ask if you have any other files to install froma different device. Select your usb drive and use the driver windows provided to help xp get booted up and run on your system.
