Gene Therapy!

I recenty watched a show on the History Channel that described how in the NEAR future we will be able to shape our genetic destiny. This is all going to be accomplished with a revolutionary science called Gene Therapy. Human beings are litterally created by a blueprint that our genetic code determines. However until recently the Human Genome was unknown. Now that the Human Genome is know and documented we can begin to classify the genes that are associated with certain diseases, mental defects and even things like skin color, and hair thickness. This might seem outrageous but a future of disease free humans is coming. Our life expectancy will double, or even triple that of todays, and not only that but we may even be able to reduce or even CANCEL the agents of aging. This is truly an amazing time to be alive and I for one am extremely excited to see what the future holds for us all. What do you think we will be able to accomplish with gene therapy, and other human-heal related sciences? TELL ME! I'm always eager to hear the ideas of others especially in this field.

This brings up many issues. First is which qualites in humans do we want to keep and which to throw away. If we are striclty talking about diseased genes, then it would make sense. The problem is gene therapy will quickly morph into something very nasty and controversial. In the wrong hands, who knows what can be done.

Hmm, this also brings up a lot of philisophical issues as well. Questions such as what are the best looks for a person, or rather child you're having the gene therapy done on. Are you allowed to do this to a child? Thanks for your input. This will definitely be an interesting science. =D

It would broaden the gap between the rich and the poor. The rich having the financial capacity to enjoy this technology will have better if not the best genes in the planet. While the poor people's gene will stagnant, putting an end to a never ending struggle between the rich and the poor, where the rich are the winners and poor always a loser. Natural selection will only select those who can afford gene therapy.
