Can you play drums while pregnant?

Can you play the drums while pregnant? I don't know if there are any female drummers here but, if you happen to be one, feel free to provide some insight in this, since I read really conflicting articles online. Obviously, it is reasonable to assume that the size of the stomach does eventually get in the way when it comes to reach the different parts on the kit. One drummer was told by her doctor that playing drums while pregnant would damage the baby's eardrums. Maybe she played death metal or something similar so it would make sense on that level?!?!? Another one kept on playing while pregnant in a band, on stage: not only did her child not suffer any damage but grew up to be a drummer himself. Ultimately of course, I would double-check with a doctor, but I would like to hear from your experience too. Thank you.

Hi lioness First of all i am not a female but i play drums, i don't know if you will get anymore responses but just let me give my review, i don't think any women should play the drums when she is pregnant, it is not only the matter of loud sounds with the drumheads vibrating very close by and the cymbals and all... but also when you play drums your body receives some shock too, mostly if you play heels up, drummers are known to have have high reflex actions and you don't want to get hyper while playing drums... anyways... just leave the drums for a while, you can always enjoy it later... have a nice time and take care

It must depend on the musical style you play in: a slow/moderate tempo doesn't require to play heel up for example. Loud sounds and shocks to the body are a potential hazard though. Thank you for taking the time to reply :) Have a nice day too.

Glad to meet a fellow drummer too ^^ I play mostly rock, blues, and reggae and I have been in bands playing these styles of music. I am also into brazilian and afro-cuban music but haven't joined any band as such that plays that kind of music: I tend to incorporate the rhythms in other styles. I got into odd-time signatures too but can't claim to be a master at them. I love jazz but still learning to play it. Nowadays, I write and play stuff myself, with my husband. I don't claim to be outstanding in any particular way as a drummer but I love playing drums :) What about you? Are you in a band or planning to join one?
