Legalizing Pot: What do you think?

United States

A long standing debate. Some people say marijuana is no worse than booze and should be treated as such. Others say it's a scourge on society and just adds to the problems already caused by alcohol. Since prohibition in the 30's was such a failure and gave rise to bootlegging and increased the income and power of Mafia families and gangsters, I think it's time that we really have a good look at marijuana laws in the US. Since marijuana had been approved for medical treatment in several states, and also has seen decriminalization in certain cases, maybe we should just go whole hog and make it legal. If it's really no worse than booze, then it can be sold and taxed legally, and the money collected can go to perusing users of harder drugs and narcotics that are truly doing our country damage, and feeding the pockets of murdering drug cartels. I also feel that the full decriminalization of marijuana would give a small percentage of relief to our overcrowded prisons and overloaded court system. The prohibition of marijuana is just as much a failure today as the prohibition of alcohol was in the 1930's. So what are we going to do? Keep letting marijuana users keep feeding money money to criminals to get the goods? Or are we going to do something constructive about the situation?
