Do you think cell phones are becoming a little too ridiculous?

Don't get me wrong I love my cell phone, but then again, I only use it as mobile phone. I occasionally text and I don't see the harm in it if its not too excessive, but what is the point of all of the other things that come with it? Such as games, internet access, movie players, music players. Do we really need all of that on our phones? It seems like every new iphone that comes out attracts us with their unusual aps that look like fun. But really? Why would we need any of those things on a basic phone? I also can't stand seeing children with cell phones. A couple of months ago a 15 year old girl won 50,000 in a texting contest! No joke. She first qualified by texting over 15,000 in a month, that is 500 texts a day. And then had to compete against other texters for speed and accuracy. But really, isn't 500 texts a day ridiculous? She even admited to texting during dinner and while she was in school. Not to mention all of the car accidents that have occured from the use of cell phones. I just feel we could tone down a bit for safety reasons and for our children. But tell me what you think about cell phones and all of their new aps and things.

I like the new technology. When you're in a waiting room or something like that and there's nothing to do for a half an hour but read an Oprah or motherhood magazine, it's good to have a phone to mess with. And a lot of the apps aren't just for fun, but some are really useful. Instead of taking a long time trying to figure out how the heck to find something in a big, tree-wasting phone book, you can just go on your phone and find a number, address, or even directions. I think that cellphones are being blamed too much. Yeah sometimes stupid people get in a car accident because they were texting or whatever, but that's not the phone's fault, it's the individual's fault for not paying attention to the road. Nor is it the phone's fault that kids are texting and playing with their phones in school. They don't want to pay attention. When I was in school, we passed notes to eachother and other things. Not paying attention in school has nothing to do with phones. We need to take personal responsibility for our actions. Just because people are using phones excessively or at inappropriate times doesn't mean that phones are bad. Of course we don't need all these apps, but we like them. Humans have the need to be constantly stimulated. We get bored easily. The more technology we make, the faster we can do things, giving us more time to fill.

I agree with you! My husbands best friend has an 8 yr old daughter with a cell phone. I do text and talk on mine, but I've seen these I Phones explode locally. I think it's sad to see that people really have nothing better to do than play on their phones all day. I myself talk on the phone while driving, but I think I am one of the few that can drive and talk at the same time. Seems like any close calls I've had on the road, the other party is on their cell. Crazy!

I am getting sick of my cell phone bill. I have three phones on my name through a company that I will not mention their name. My bill is always to high and I think there has to be a way to get a smaller bill. See I have went down on my plan but than we go over on our mintues than I owe like 70$ more than before. I guess I need to find another way in terms of a provider. I have had most of them but it seems like the current one I have has been the best overall. TAke care and happy mylotting as well.

To be honest I think more than 50% of calls by the caller are not very necessary or not so urgent. I don’t like using my mobile phone in public so usually I just get calls from others when I’m out. Also when I answer it I usually talk very briefly or I said I will call you back when I’m home. I think some people really should pay attention on others when they are in public. One day I was in a wedding ceremony. One guest forgot turning his mobile off and disturbed the ceremony. It was embarrassing.

In fact cell phones are becoming a little menace too now a days. People are too busy with it that they have stopped a lot of other social activities, Yes the internet access, games and movies and other special features make people to stop socializing with others or family members, sometimes even people sitting in front of them as they are too engrossed with their cell phones.

I like all the new phones and technology they have. I think it is cool that we can do so many things on our phones these days. I'm not saying we should be on our phones all the time. Soon I hope to get internet on my phone, only because of my job, I work as an overnight aid in a retirement home, and it is really boring there. I basically sit around all night watching TV till it's time for me to go to sleep. The building I work in is made of brick and steele so trying to get a Wi-Fi connection on my laptop is very hard, so having the internet and such on my phone would really come in handy. As for texting I don't text all the time. I can't beleive that 15 year old girl could text so much, my god. And texting contest, that a hoot, what will they think of next.

I love my phone and all it does. When my computer at home was out, the phone saved the day. I need to keep in contact for my business. And I am not a young person, but elderly but some peoples ( irrational) standards, I am 60.

There are lots of features that I find not too useful. I have a high-end cellphone but I confess that I don't use any features of it. I am just using it for receiving calls and sending SMS. That's all. But I really don't text too much I really hate it. Plus I don't have my material to do those things. lol. Sometimes I received message with a crazy signatures. They find it cute but I find it boring. :D

i agree with you. okay, it is usefull to keep in contact with others lives far away from us. but i think its just "too much" for an elementary girl (in this case my own litle sister) to have a cell phone on their own. all day long she just "hang out" with her cell and forget the world outside. i'm afraid she doesn't have much real friends but only her cell phone. that's not good for her social life. so i ask my mother to take back her cell.

I don't like texting too much. It's easier to send instant message, call, or send e-mail. However some people think texting is immediate and fast response. I'm not sure how someone wants to send fifty thousand text messages. Hopefully she had unlimited text messages. Texting during dinner and school is bad, sorry. Try again, right? I use my phone mainly for phone, and also watching clips and listening to the radio. Texting is okay but I think some people over use it.

I really feel that for the most part they can be, but only if we let them. I have a lot of features on mine, and if I don't use them, they are there if I ever do use them. My cell is the only phone I have so for me, I need a phone that will give me everything that I need and that it works the way it should. I don't text usually, so that part of it, I can really live without, however, my best frined test messaged me yesterday, so tested her back. That is really the first text message I have ever done. I think that teenagers are ridiculous with their cell phones as they text in school when they should be doing their work. In some schools they aren't allowed to even have tham, and I am all for that. They are to learn not to talk to others on their cell phones. Some will sneak their phones into school and text when the teacher isn't looking or they will go to the restroom and text there so they can't be seen. That is reall crazy. Thank goodness they didn't have cell phons when my kids were in school. They both have them now, but then they are both married. How times have changed since I went to school. Have a good day, and happy mylotting.

I do not think cell phones are becoming ridiculous. It is one of the famous methodology to get to know each other. It is very usful for business purpose and other activities. Though it gives a trouble when you are busy, but it seems to be a excellent device to speed up the process at any point of time. Sometime it creates an issue or somehow even cut the relationship due to the wrong statement over the phone. If you could discuss in person, then these things can be avoided. Thus, cell phones are 80% helpful and the balance 20%, it could lead a problem and irritation. When you need a privacy, it should be avoided. Practically, everyone has the cell phones now a days, even a child need this device, we cannot call it as a ridiculous,
