In our country we passed a law prohibiting people from giving alms to beggars. We could only give it to some charities and foundations catering these beggars. They are taking care of this people. They have a separate place for them to leave but some of them escape and continue living on the streets asking and begging from people. In my part, it depends on my feeling and the status of whom I would give. But most often than not I never tolerate this attitude... How about you is your attitude to give alms wherever you see these beggars? What's your stand about this, let's share it...Happy myloting...

as a matter of principle i do not give alms to beggars. i had once started keeping a cloth in my car and whenever someone came begging i used to ask him to wipe clean my car and i would pay him for his work. needless to say almost all of them used to walk away. on the other hand i tip / encourage people who are struggling to make a living especially if they are physically challenged. i also make sure to appreciate them for their work and efforts.

It's true that there are some beggers who have the ability of working,so they can earn money for living by themselves, but why they don't like this life style?I think it is because they are idle and so lazy, all you know working is honorable, and it is the basic of own society. So these beggers should be prohibited, they depend their idle life on kindhearted people's alms...We all can not tolerate ...

I don't immediately give alms to beggars because most beggars in the streets are used by big-time syndicates. Though I really want to give donations to the beggars, I want that they are the ones who are getting the benefit and not those opportunity offenders.

Some of the beggars has the ability to do things for themselves. They can work for their foods but because they don't like to work and they are contented to what others can give to them so, they rather stayed beggar forever. I gave alms to those who don't have the capacity to work for thier daily needs especially the foods. We know who really the needy and we feel them. But the best thing is if we have food and everything excess better we share it to others especially the needy. No matter if they are beggars or not. Let us share what we have.. Have a nice day!

You push them in the right direction to helping themselves. Those who really want out of their situation will do something about it. and really work to get out. Some people are out there with mental illness which keeps them from having a job. There are programs in some places for those people that help them to make money and support themselves.

It's a difficult situation when someone approaches you to beg for some money or food. Social scientists talk about different ways of eradicating poverty, but such attempts still remain in theory. When someone gives alms, s/he can be blamed to promote begging. BUT - it all depends on one's gut-feeling. The very fact that someone stands in front of you begging proves that our attempts to stop such things and bring respect to all human beings haven't succeeded. I could never see beggars as a menace to the society. It is a common cause for which all of us have to work together. If someone is forced to beg, it is the result of the society in which s/he lives, and it is not in the power of her/him to change the situation. If we cannot find a five minute solution to all those who are reduced to this state, it wouldn't hurt my conscience to address the problem in front of me, and give some money that would provide at least one meal to someone who really deserves it. It's not that I am irresponsible to society as a whole, but I know that individual needs are also to be taken care of in an ideal society. Sometimes, the ultimate solution is not in our hands and we have to live and let live for the moment.

yes stopping poverty is rather difficult task. there were many attempts. there were many numerous private and government funded organization to eradicate poverty but they just seem to flourish even despite those efforts. and so i think that it is not enough that we have these organizations. i think that these organizations can only cater for limited number of people to put them in shelter to be given their daily needs in life. and i think that though they see more beggars outside they just don't go out to fetch them and bring them in the shelter homes. they will have to go through these long process or formalities. i think that there should be organization that will accept poor and helpless people whatever the reason they became poor so that we will see an end to this to our own community though not in the world entirely. cause if we do our own little part that we can help eradicate these poverty worldwide. and if we have done our own small part that we as a world can help in turn help those countrys who can't help themselves like those in africa.

I respect you opinions my friends. But in our country some beggars never could be really a beggar if the would just let their well-able bodies to work to earn for their living. I mean, some of them live intentionally being a beggar because they are so lazy to work, instead they would only depend on someone else pockets to let them survive day by day.. A saying goes.." give him a fish to eat one day, teach him how to catch fish and he could eat the rest of his lives".. Some beggars on our country are keep on asking food and any materials from you and traded it with some other things that could make it to cash in another places and back again to you...they have a good memories where those people that could easily give everything that's why our government passed a law prohibiting to give anything on the beggars not encourage them to be a lazy forever the rest of their lives.. But of course it exempt to those who could not really work on themselves... Thanks for your opinion anyway, I appreciate it....

Talk about weird rules. I thought there was democracy in Philippines. Atleast there are organisations to take care of them. I do give alms to beggars. I give alms if I feel the person is physically unfit or deserves alms. There are healthy people who go around begging because they are too lazy to work. I hate such people.

Yes sometimes when the needy or afflicted person is worse and can't do anything I help. But when they are strong I refer them to the training skills or tell the authority to take care of those people that are begging in the streets. I happy the government helping them in giving food, medicines and housing project for them.

i agree with the government's presription. If the government admit the citizen give money to those beggars, there might be more beggars hanging around the streets of the country and that will exert a negative influence on the appearance of the country. I also want the government of my city can work out such prohibition and then less beggars will on the streets.
