walking home late at night, scared or OK?

I always hate it when I have to go home late at night. This is because my house is pretty far away from the main street, hence it is very dark and quiet. Surely there were street lights, but they just do not give enough light. I am always really scared if I have to walk home at night and became so paranoid by looking around frantically every time. Does any of you ever feel the same thing? Or this is just a usual thing for you? Please do share...

Hi Ylrevhan I don't like walking alone at night either especially if its late. Although we live in a pretty good nieghborhood I would still rather walk with someone than by myself. Can you get someone to walk home with you when its late? Also where are you walking home from?

Well my home is right on the main road even then I don’t like the idea of walking home alone late at night. Though our area is safe enough and I have grown up in this place, yet you never know when a drunkard or boys on bikes might accost you and being a woman, its anybody’s guess what might happen after that. I remember once my husband was supposed to bring dinner on his way back from office…well he got stuck somehow and informed me at 10:30pm and I had to go out around quarter to eleven to get dinner. The roads were not quite deserted but not crowded either and I could see a few loiterers which scared me even more.

It's not OK for me to walk home late at night because the place where I live is not very safe. I wouldn't mind it when I live in a place like Singapore, where you could walk at your leisure and not think of criminals or robbers, but in the Philippines if you walk home late at night you would likely be robbed, hurt, or killed. Most people here are not bad, but there are lots of people who would do anything to get some money, especially now that the world is in a financial crisis.

I always go home in the middle of the night, everytime I finish my 3-11 shift. Nothing bad has happened to me so nothing else should be scared of..

Oh my goodness, I am horrible with this!!! I used to live in town and the lights at night would be so dim, especially walking down alleys and streets, omggg I would be so scared! Now, it is even worse because I live in the country and it is SO dark out, especially when I come home from work at night and have to go in by myself, and the WORST is after watching a super scary movie and going outside afterwords. TOTALLY HORRIBLE!!! lol

I am a little frightened every time that I go out. Very often people here (especially women) do not go out by themselves. This is true even at our public library here, even though the library is next to the police station. The police park their police cars it the lot next to the library. I just do not see people hardly ever walking out at night. It is getting too dangerous.

I am very happy to walk to home at late nights. My city is pretty cool and no problem with the lights too.My house is beside the National Highway and continuously some vehicles go here and there. I am working in a company. So, we have shifts. At nights we have to come home at night 1AM. This happens 3 times a week. So, better i enjoy long night drives and coming home at late night.Few times, we enjoy the mid-night movies and come home. But, we are guys so we can do that easily compared to galz.

No, not scared or afraid. However I like to be cautious. If its too dark I tend to keep a watch on the road for any snakes. I also try to keep away from people who live in the slums. I think I am scared of loosing money.

I am ok, maybe since I am a guy, but if you are a girl, you should be more cautious because lately in the world, there has been an increase in secx crimes especially toward women. Therefore, people should be more "scared" as a precautionary step. Being scared either gender is actually ok and something to be valued.

Nights are pretty scary out at lonely places, fear adds to that when you are alone and all by yourself. The most scary part would be if any small briskly sounds are heard.i would suggest never turn back while walking out at night in such a situation our own shadows can scare us. i to have my home away from the main place off the town,i ride a cycle from the town to my house, during this time its not too dark but when I get late its sometimes pretty frightening because the lights won't be put om everywhere.Keep up your spirits high and never imagine anything that's what I do in these scenario anywhere.

In my neighborhood, I am never scared walking at night. It is a very small rural area so I have little to be worried about, even at night. However, when I am walking at night in the not-so-nice parts of a town or city I will be very cautious and always watch my surroundings. This way I will always be aware of who is around or places people could be hiding. I continue to take these preventative measures in high crime areas despite never having a problem myself with people of the night. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

I used to be terrified of walking home at night or in the dark, but after doing it a few times I started to calm down. It was definitely more to do with the areas that make me nervous rather than the fact it was dark. One of the villages I have to pass through if I am walking home after a night out, or meeting people, is a council estate area which tends to be rough and where my brother has had problems in the part, so when I walk past there I get nervous, though I did start to go a longer way so I could avoid that! Oddly enough though all the times I have walked at night have been fine, during the day though I tend to get commented on so my paranoia is currently more inclined to think about the daytime rather than the night time at the moment. I wouldn't want to have to walk home often on a night-time though, not if I could help it! All the best, Dranz

I used to live in Sacramento and I got creeped out walking home there and it was just down the street. Now I live in a small town in Kansas though and I walk all over the town anytime of night and feel extremely safe.

It depends on the weather. And also depends on the environment around the street. If it's the street which i usually use, then i think i won't be scared because i know almost all the people who living at there. But if the place is strange for me, then i think i'll call someone to accompaning me. I'm a woman and i don't want to take a risk which can harm myself. Prevention is better. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

I seldom have to walk my way home because I drive a car and I will park inside our home building. But still I will be a little cautious and aware because you will never know what might be lurking in the dark or somewhere out of your sight. Sometimes before going out from the lift I will peek and look around before exiting and I always hold on to my keys, I don't know why. Maybe because nowadays there's just too many bad things and bad people around. Back in my hometown, sometimes I do have to walk my way home if I go out with my friends, they will just drop me at the main road. That time, I will be more relax because I know nobody will waste time to prey as not many people use that road (only about 4 houses there). But sometimes I will think about ghost??? Never seen one though.

I never dare to walk home late at night alone . It's too dangerous indeed for girls. I would recall many horrible stories or tragedies happened in the midnight. I probably would scare myself heavily by my uncontrolled thoughts about meeting terrifying killers. And i'm strongly against that girls and women walk home late at night just alone . They should bring knives or should have companion in order to keep them safe.

Luckily I drive a car home, so don't have to worry about walking home in the dark. When I was younger I would walk home alone at night. Sometimes I would scare myself. In college I had to walk on a path through a wooded area. That used to scare me, especially when there were shadows. One day a man walked up behind me and told me that I shouldn't be walking by myself through there. (Thanks for scaring the !! out of me.) Luckily I was only a few steps from my apartment.

This experience is common for everyone. But it depends on the surrounding of the place. As for me, my house is not to far from the main road but, the road to my house is quite creepy and dark because there are only 2 street light. One on the junction of the road and another is at the end of the road. And my house is in the middle. As for your info, the road is opposite with light forest-not so thick forest. And plus, beside my house there's one part of abandon house lot that already being live with the bushes and wild plants. But what i'm trying to share is not about the scared thing when you walking home late at night. Its about a funny story here. There was one day that my friend and I need to walk back home late at night after our last day as exhibitors' work.To get to my house from the workplace is by a bus with 3 times exchange route bus. After we get off from the bus, we already think that we want to call someone at home and pick us up.But luckily, there was one guy that enter the road to my house. So we walk quickly to be close to him (although we don't know him). After a few steps, the man start to walk even faster and because we don't want to lose sight of him we start to run towards him.And I noticed that he regularly watched back at us and felt like he scared of us.haha.How funny. What can we do to him? That man scared with us?But we keep on running to pursue him and suddenly he turned right into one of my neighbor's house. And thank god, it almost near to our house. After we get into the house, we can't stop laughing with what happened before.hahaha.So, that is what from my experienced when walking home late at night.Sure bring back memories.haha..
