what brings a tear to your eye a dog or starving kids eating garbage ?

Sometimes i wonder if world hunger will ever end or it's just wishful thinking. I have lived in developing countries were poverty is rife, and in developed countries and i see that increasingly animals are more important than human beings. Just the other day i was watching a TV program where the contestants were in a ery poor developing country and one of the girls cried because she saw dogs and goats eating from garbage cans. Alongside the goats and dogs were thin kids with no clothes on rummaging through the rubbish. What struck me was how she focused on the animals and just ignored the kids. I am just wondering whether the more fortunate are becoming desensitised to the poor. Is poverty now becoming boring to a lot of people? I don't know what's going on. I know that we have to care for nature too but don't the needs of humans supersede those of animals? I am not undermining animal lovers in any way but please help me understand why the needs of the poor seem not to matter as much.

i think that people do care. But I think that we just feel that we can't help enough as far as the children go. I see on the news how we're supposed to come up with 2000 dollars in the city I live in to help children in another country. But how far do you go? What's next? There's only so much money in the world. You can't help every one all of the time. Oh yes for me it would be the dog because I am an animal lover.

Hey doglady. I guess is each to their own in this situation. Sometimes when you see that dogs are loyal and will never throw it back in your face once you have helped them, then maybe that's why people love them so much. When i make my fortune it will be starving kids first and then those beautiful guide dogs. I love their loyalty.

Im in a 3rd world country..i see both of this everyday of my life. We are both animals...but of corz it would hurt us most seeing a child starving than a dog. But u have to understand that it is responsible for all parents to look after their kids...but here is like the different way round...they used their kids to beg for money. IT hurts me deeply to think of how irresponsible this people are...and most of them are physically well. Even u give all ur wealth away to this people it will never make a slight of difference. They are lazy lazy people most of them but not everybody. There is nothing we can do..but accept the fact that life is not fair.

I remember in slumdog millionaire when a nasty pretencious man was blinding the kids so that they would receive more when they went out begging. I have heard stories of people who can cripple their kids just so they can receive more when begging. I think it's easier to just think that life is not fair because the complexities of poverty are really too depressing.

I don't understand what her parents taught her. If her dog and her parents get sick, I wonder who will she take care of. I am not sure if it will bring a tear to eyes. There is much sadder things in this world. However I will be sad about the condition of the child.

Oh Vanillarey she was bawling her eyes out. She must have been taught that animals or pets are really precious. People really love their pets to the point where not a lot else matters. I am guessing that when you are able to spend $100 or more a week on dog food alone and you have insurance for your pet, then that's a sign of affluence in these times.

Well, in my own opinion I pity both scenarios, if I have enough money I am going to feed the starving kids and have them adopt the animals. It may become their companion and if ever they left small morsels of food they could give it to the animals. If ever they really have no homes, I would be willing to help them to find a home or call the help of social welfare agency to help the kids and in the cases of the animals..they will be entrusted to the care of the animals welfare society to take care of them..

Well Neelia i think yours is a good idea because then both man and animal are provided for in this case. But in some developing countries there aren't any social welfare agencies that look after the poor. But with time i fear that as the numbers of the hungry grow, then the limited resources will not cope even more.

I do believe that in some day peopel all around the world can get rid of hunger . Our country is also a developing country . I remembered when i was a kid people around were very poor but we didnt' suffer hunger too much because we raised chicken, pigs, cows , rices and vegetables . Thirty years passed by and now most of us are living a better and better life than before . I know that in some places or some countries it's very hard for people to plant anything for themselves . And there are wars too which make a lot of people homeless and lose their loved ones. All these result in poverty . So sad about that .

When I was growing up it was tough too. But we could go for hours without a proper meal but there were plenty of berries in the forest so that would sustain us for a while. Even if you didn't have much, your extended family and neighbours would look out for you. Lucky for us who managed to rise above it but it breaks my heart that children, through no fault of their own are born into this cruel and tough world. It is trully sad Grace.

Hey, I think that both of them would bring tears to my eyes. I have always wanted to help the poor people out their, but I never have enough money to send to the charities and Asian aid. I am trying to save up some money to send off. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Once I saw a dog eating in the garbage and when he turned to look at me there was tears in its eyes, I could not belive that because it was so real and unreal at the same time, when I approached, he was so frighten, he could not bark because he was so weak and he tried to defend himself though, this made me cry a lo that day, I removed my bread to gave the dog and from that day only I startes supporting the association for dogs who do not have an owner. Now to see a child eating in the garbage will obviously bring tears to my eyes because this is one of the sight I do not wish to see infront of me. I feel so angry of the society and of the people who give birth to children and then cannot take their responsibility.

I would feel sorry for the dog too especially if i saw tears in it's eyes. It's just that if i had to choose between a dog and people, no matter how irresponsible the individuals, I would spare a thought for the people.

They both make me cry... but the starving kids would have my attention first.... And there's at least a hundred reasons why that I think this. I'm glad I wasn't on the show with this chick.. I probably would have just popped her in the face. But the sad fact is, that animals, cute smiley bubbly faced kids, chicks that squeeze out 6+ kids at one time, will garner the spotlight more than those actually in need of care and attention. What was that which had been said in the movie "Hotel Rwanda"...? Along the lines of "People are going to look up and say 'How Sad', and then go right back to eating their dinners"...

I guess you are right Zoey the whole having kids idea these days can be more for publicity and social belonging than knowing what you will feed them or whether you will have enough room for them. We all know of a famous multiple birth mom doing exactly this. I guess the lack of compassion is affected by people thinking it's THEIR problem and not OURS. Hotel Rwanda had a lot of home truths. One of my favourite movies!
