I have wooden floors in some rooms and tiles in the other, I think they are much cleaner than carpet...

I live in an old house built in the 1850s We have all hard wood floors and I love them. I use a few carpets/throw rugs here and there just to decorate a bit and add some color.

Wood floors! Carpet collects too much dirt/dust. Also bad if you have allergies and pets. Constantly have to vaccum your carpet.
