I especially love classic rock and roll. I am talking old school. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Ozzy Osbourne. Do any of you remember the Ozzyfests and are any of you old enough to remember what rock was like back in the mid 60's until the mid 90's? Past that it has been alittle hazy for me (Purple Haze). I am listening to Low Rider by War. There is a summer band to listen to. For this discussion can you oldsters out there tell me about just one song that you may hear that takes you back to better times or to the no care times of your youth. For me I like Otis Redding and his Setting On The Dock Of The Bay. Bring those grand old summers back to me. That and a real hard head banger like Mississippi Queen done by Ozzy or Jim Dandy by Black Oak Arkansas. I go back to the BOA concerts I always made sure I got to and the unmentionable experiences I had back in the 60's. I love to listen to Janis and Jimi and who can listen to better than a Doors CD on a warm summer night? Now there's living!!!! Oh,here comes ZZtop and I Thank YOU!!!! I used to wait until my mom went to the store or left for work and then I cranked up the radio or stereo(ya,that was what they were called back in the dark ages babes)and listened to such albums(yes, another archaic bit of jargin for ya)as The Rolling Stones - Her Majesties......what was the rest of that one's title.Or the Steve Miller Band. So, what song, album or preformer/s takes you back to those days of your youth? Not for the youngsters either, us oldsters please! Born to be Wild on now.'We can climb so high I never want to die........."

Hey, who wants to die, right? I still remember listening to In A Gadda Da Vida with the first stereo I ever got for the year it came out. Before that particular year I only had a transistor and had to keep it low cuz the folks didn't like me listening to my kinda music..

Yes, an old favorite for sure. I had to wait until my mom left for the store to play my music. I had to listen to her Perry Como all day.

Hey celtic! Oldster here! You named ALL my favs just about! You left Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young for one that I can think of! I just bought a bunch of CD before I went on vacation so that I could listen to the in case I got bored! I bought Doors, CSN, Pink Floyd, Janis, Led Zeppelin! All the ones that I have the albums for that I can't listen to because I don't have a turn table anymore! I also just bought "Woostock"! I used to do the same thing as you, wait for my parents to leave and crank up my stero! They would come home and hear it and freak and also smell the weed burning and the incense too! I would have a blast! So now I bought a new "boom box" and crank up the same tunes, unfortunately minus the smoke!

I've still got a lot of the old vinyl too, and no turntable either! CSN&Y are another one of my favorites that I forgot to mention, and Queen. I like some of the 70's progressive rock bands too, like Yes, Genesis... the early stuff especially, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. David Bowie is great too! I'm glad I can listen to my music as loud as I want to now without someone yelling "Turn that down!!" lol!

Hi celti, Music listening is my thing too.But sorry to say I have never loved Rock music nor pop except one or two numbers. And the name cited above are not known at all. Perhaps when they were on the cliff I was a little kid. lol I specially like to listen to the English country song. And of course it would be a lie if I do not say I do not like soft Rock but very selective one.t

Hi celticeagle. I know what you mean when you say the REAL stuff. I love rock from the 60's, 70's, & 80's. My favorite band of all time is Led Zeppelin. So many of their songs remind me of when I was in high school and some of the crazy things we did! I have older sisters, so most of the music I actually remember hearing in the 60's was stuff they liked from The Beatles through The Doors. My family went to California to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousin in 1968 and all my sisters and my cousin wanted to do was listen to Doors albums! Since I mostly still listen to classic rock I keep realizing how much really great music there is from back in the day. Not long ago I got a Thin Lizzy CD. I'd never had any of their albums, but liked a lot of their songs. They really rock! I'm sure I'll get more of their music now. There's so many more... where do I start? Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Rush... I could go on & on!

I think we must have been joined at birth and no one told us or something! I love Led Zepplin then comes AC/DC and then OZZY and Eric Clapton. And the list goes on and on. Everyone you mentioned and more and more all time. For me there a span where I lost track of all these grand bands and I am just now reconnecting. It is great!

I like the music of older artists like Jimi Hendrix the doors and Joplin more than I like the music of today that's for sure. I always thought I was born in the decade to be landed with the music we get nowadays, all sounding the same with a load of artists who look exactly the same. I spend more time listening to old music than I do modern music, not all modern music is bad but most mainstream music is too commercial and formulaic for my liking.

I also enjoy classic rock, especially Ozzy Osborne, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix. In fact Jimi Hendrix was a genious on the electric guitar, in that he could really make it sing so passionately. I especially love Led Zepplin's song Stairway to Heaven.

Yes, Jimi was a genius. And you can't think of Rock and think of OZZy. But also my fave Janis and I loved The Doors. Just definite sounds unique unto themselves.

I like Queen. My favorites songs of Queen are - bohemian raphsody(amazing lyrics), we will rock you, radio ga ga, another one bites the dust, killer queen, under pressure, crazy little thing called love, I want to break free, fat bottom girls. I still have other songs to hear. I think they are still the top selling album in England. Their songs will please people of all ages. People who love good lyrics and good music.

Not quite as old as you are, but my dad was always listening to oldies when I was growing up in the 80s. Nothing reminds me more of growing up and singing along with my dad than Boston. Any song off their first album, but favorites are Rock & Roll Band and Smokin.
