my mother has a house cleaner but doesn't want the maid to think her house is dirty so she cleans before the maid comes. what is the point. why pay someone to do it if you are going to do it yourself. does this really make sense?

I remember one time my mother had us completely clean the house because a friend hired a maid to clean the house and my mother said we didn't need a maid. She wanted to prove that we didn't need one. It didn't make sense to me as a child, but can understand today that my Mom didn't want a stranger to see our house dirty. Guess it sounds odd, but many of us want others to think we have the cleanest house.

I have heard this numerous times. I think its so funny why bother if the maid is coming. I could understand if you are a slob and your clothes are thrown all over the bedroom, but to clean the things that the maid is suppose to do is a waste of your time and money that you give to the maid. It makes no sense at all.

That's as bad as my daughter washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Well, maybe not as bad, but right up there. However I remember one time, when I was pregnant for the first time, my husband hired a cleaning lady to come in twice a week to help me with the house work. I soon stopped that because I worked harder when she was there than I did on the days I was alone. I don't know why we are like that. Maybe it is just human nature.

Perhaps we will think that it doesn't make any sense. It sounds like wasting sum of money for something we don't really see the result. But i think it's probably your mother has her own reason on why she did this thing. I suggest you to ask her about her reason. In my own opinion, i think perhaps cleaning your house is not included in the agreement between your mother and that maid. Perhaps that maid only for doing another job in your house, maybe it is cooking, washing, etc but not cleaning the house. Or perhaps your mother still want to move her body so she still try her best to doing some house jobs, such as cleaning the house. I don't think your mother is doing a nonsense thing because sometimes i meet with old women who still doing their house jobs and most of them do that jobs together with their maids. So for me personally, i think it's a common things. Also, if your mother have no another activity such as working outside, i think it's fine if she wants to do some house jobs. It has a good effect for herself. Just considered she is doing some body exercises and we know that is good for our health. Don't look something only from one perspective. I can understand if you are wondering why we must spend more money for that maid meanwhile we do that job ourselves. But, everything happened for a reason. If your house maid is younger than your mother, i think it's probably your mother wants that maid to learn how your mother wants her house cleaned. She wants her own style. Good luck and have a nice day. Happy mylotting.

That would so be me. Of course I'm extremely self-conscious and private so a maid would not work for me.
