I believe that for the most part. It really depends on the animal. A fish or bird wont be very reliable...I have had both. And the bird turned evil on us when we left it at a friends for a week while we were on vacation. It still has not forgiven us - so birds hold grudges!!! However, my dogs are the most reliable family members I have. I know that no matter what they are there for me and are on my side. I love them dearly and they know it by how well I take care of them. I have never seen a dog turn their back on their human companion without due reason (beatings, etc). I even knew two puppies that were being starved that never turned on the people, but that may be because I was feeding them once I found out. They now have new homes, though. I made sure of that.
