One union or several unions - once any one of the union is successful in making the management to extend certain benefits and facilities, it is applicable to all the workers of the industry, irrespective of their membership in different unions. To avoid one union taking the credit for their success, the management invites representative of all the unions for talks.

It would be nice if people were paid fairly but I don't think it will ever happen. Unions were put in place to look out for their members, to help them get paid better and have better benefits. So if the memeber did not see benefits like higher pay, why be in the Union? In some companies the lower wages and more expensive benefits that are not a high quality are almost a punishment for not being in the Union. My Aunt worked in the lab at a large chemical plant and she was looked down upon because she refused to join the Union. They made her life hell until she quit, but that was her choice.
