Buddhism never really took off in the west.only in the west some people feel it's lucky to rub the stomach of a Buddha statue. it originally came over from india. In china, Buddhism has inspired some truly amazing architecture. After 1279 it has intermingled with other local beliefs and continues to be an important part of Chinese culture. This rich cultural legacy, and many of it's works such as the Dunhuang painting, are protected by the state. Through humility, gernerosity , mercy, abstention from violence and elimination of desire, the Buddhist holy man aims to escape from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, and all that causes suffering. though there are many different contents in Buddhism, generally, Han Buddhism still teaches abstentioon from violence and desire. Now in some cities in the foreign country there is one sect called Falun Gong, which is said belonging to the Buddhism. Ask any westerner about eastern religion and they will invariably bring up Buddhism. Buddhist status can be found for sale in the west, although most westerners have little understanding of Buddhism. Unlike much of the Chinese culture, Buddhism has not had so much of an impact in the west.
