Purpose of the appendix

What is the purpose of appendix? how common is appendicities?

Appendix do have purpose. It plays a role in the immunologic composition in our alimentary system. Though not so clear for its distinct role, it serves as supplemental in origin. So we can survive without it. Appendicitis is common with men on their 20's.

I was taught at school that the apprendix is disappearing in the human race over time as it was originally there for when we were grass eating species, true or not true I don't know....
