so myLotters... are you gettign fatter each day...? we spend hours using the computers and thus we are not at all moving out limbs except for the eyes and fingers. this is adding to our weight. are we heading towards obesity or are we working out regularly...? i think all of us need to follow a regular exercise regime that we either tend to avoid due to laziness or we due to time constraints... how many of you have exersice in your daily shedule...??

hi there! agree! it helps us gain weight if we dont have alternatives, haha. im starting to feel that way. yesterday i was able to use the thread mill. then had a tiring moment this afternoon dealing with the meetings and the traffic. am planning to use it again tomorrow. internet particulary this mylotting became my therapy before i go to sleep. the best compensation am getting from this is learning different points of view from people like u. thanks! :)

sit up straight!! that is what we need to keep telling ourselves. the moment we forget about it we tend to curl our backs.... i really feel pity for the back.

It all depends on what kind of a person one has been, the computer surely makes a person addicted to sit in front of it and go on with his /her activities. The getting fat aspect is also a important one to be noted, since it not only makes one fat if he/she is using it more without any regular body exercises and good fatty food, the fat then lead to laziness and thus trouble with the health issue of anyone. I actually go away from my computer while using it for long at times and may be ashing my face too at regular intervals with cold water helps me being relaxed and being prevented fro mother health issues. The regular sitting will change the setup of our body and we must be aware of that every time we are with our computers.

Being so connected to the computer,we do stretch ourselves, during the constant sitting on a chair or similar platform.I try out going for my arm stretches,we do it as a habit though, since it feels so cramped after a long time anywhere. The back of our also gives some aches, thus some ups and downs are the usual. I do not go for any special exercises we try and do it just during the use, well regular is perfect as you say,

Getting fatter depends on many factors. Spending a lot of time sitting infront of the computer is only one factor which can contribute to weight. But, it is a fact that we can't avoid it especially for people like me who are working using computer. It is must for me to spend atleast eight hours at work infront of computer. Now a days it gets extended to eleven to tweleve hours. Try proper exercise.

I am complete of the opposite, because I get thinner when i frequently uses computer that I am so glued with what i am doing that i forget to take my meals..I think when women and men live a sedentary lifestyles with frequent sitting and eating. They would gain fat leading to obesity..

you are an envy for many in this world... getting thinner while sitting... well if your are missing meals then this is not a good sign. you have problems in the future. missing meals is not a way of healthy living... i thik it is high time you start giving importance to you bodily requirements.

Hi abanerji, here I just need to add a few things. First and foremost, getting fat has something to do with a) quantity of food intake vis a vis physical activity, b) quality of food intake, c) mental disposition, d) habits, e) age, f) genetic make up. But these are just a few that I can list out. First one is self-explanatory. The second one - if u take more pastries with all that cream on top, u will put on weight, even if u go to the gym. The mental disposition is a big factor. If u r not at peace with urself, no amount of exercise will help u shed that fat. So u do need to loose those unhappy thoughts. And I love watching television. If I was not in front of computer, I'd be in front of the television - that would still be ok, if it were not for the fact that I love having a plate full of eatables besides me while I watch movies. So at least hands are not free enough to feed me those unnecessary calories. Age as we all know affects fat metabolism, and genetic predisposition of fat will not help people who are inclined to be fat even if they slogged for the whole day. These being major factors for making obese, why blame my poor darling chichoo (I call my computer that).

hi vandana! i am not trying to blame your chichoo for that matter. i just tried to say that sitting all day long with the computer is not letting the body get it's required amount of movement. anyway, you have furnished a deeper insight into the reasons of weight gain. thanks for your response.

oh wow Oo this really freaked me out, as I am at the moment sitting before the computer, reading this will cause me to get fat... well, I guess as long is you do everything in moderation. it doesn't help to not move at all, and to add to that by eating fattening foods. maybe if for every hour on the computer we could get up and stretch, or eat something else then fast food usually consumed in front of the screen.

You are absolutely right abanerji, these days we spend hours before PC and our body becomes lazy and weight catches up. Weight is catching me up and I am planning an excercise regime, plan is ready but excuting is not happening up. So, I am wondering what to do.. Any ideas you have and what are your doing... I have no choice becuase of time constraint. But if there is will then I should find solution.

I confess I do not exercise. However I think it would be a good idea to set up your computer and your television in front of your treadmill that way you really have no excuse. You could hook up your computer to a big screen TV even and then use a wireless keyboard and mouse, or even speech recognition software although you might be out of breath and distort your words.

Well, if you don't get up that much like we all do when getting into mylot already then yes, there is a chance that you get fatter a bit. I think it's best to exercise first in the morning or do other house chores before going to your seat and start mylotting. sitting too much can be bad for your back, which is bad for me already because of the back pain. have a great day

you said it!! it is best to exersice in the morning and then sit. the body would get adequate amount of movement and there would not be much of problem then.

for two years now, I'm working on a night shift in a web master staffing company so i basically spend at least 9 hours a day in front of the computer so i gained a significant amount of weight, I tried to go to the gym but it only lasted for a while because i find it hard to sleep well after exercising, then i tried yoga but it too didn't last long because of it's schedule, I even bought a treadmill which i am still paying till now but I'm always lazy to use it.

well, before you gain a little more weight take interst in workouts.. it is better to prevent than to repent later. try out simpler actvites initially and then go in for more difficult ones.

Hi Abanerji My compupter use has nothing to do with my excerise routine. In no way does it prevent me from my workouts. If I don't work out I don't feel energized and I need to be able to feel energetic or at least able to function day to day thats the power of endorphins when I excerise and those are realeased it makes me feel so much better and I sleep better too.... Although I rely on my computer heavily for various tasks such as banking, research, earning money,socializing,ect.. I don't neglect myself physically, the body was meant for motion we are not designed to be stationary or sedentary(not sure I spelled that right but oh well :-) Posture is also important if your going to spend a lot of time at your PC sit up right don't slouch that can happen from time to time without realizing it I put a pillow behind my back and contantly check to see if I am sitting up striaht . I always find the time to excerise wether I want to or not sometimes it is hard to get started but I think of how I will feel afterwards and that usually get me moving although I don't go to a gym I do have workout tapes that have interval training ,aerobics, and endurance training I also have an elyptical machine which I love... I like to switch things up and not do the same thing over and over as not to get bored.

yes! posturre is very important while sitting. most of the time i forget to sit up straight but the moment i realsie that my posture is going wrong i correct it. most people tend to avoid exersice but for sure they are doing the wrong thing. you are right in saying that the body is made for moving.

Many people know that spending hours using the computers is not a good habit. But it's quite difficult to change it. When we sit in front of the computer, most of us would forget lapse of time, during which fat is accumulating inside our bodies. Maybe that's the cost of modern life.

hi simon, there are people who follow an exersice regime too, so we can learn from them and start keeping our body in move.
